I lost 50pounds in a little over 2 months

Ok When i first started my job i was 197 pounds and wearing a size 18 to 20 jeans. I started in my and buy the time july came around i was 145pounds. What did in do? Well i stopped drinking the soda and started drinking water all the time. I felt much better about myself because i had a job. I had 2 kids at the time and no car. Where ever i went i had to walk unless it was to work and that i would only take a bus and then walk home. I had to walk up hills and i walked any wheres between 2 to 4 miles aday and always had a bottle of water with me. I was never home so there for i didn't have time to eat a lot of food. I only had time to eat a very quick meal (not order out). I made up a little bit of noodles and ate them but i always had food for the kids. Thats all that they did was eat... So it can be done. Get a group of friends and start walking up those hills and just keep doing it every day. When you can start walking up them with out being out of breath then thats a very good sign.. You can also look for a bigger hill. Any more ideas as to how to have some weight loss feel free to add.

Congrats to all who lose weight and keep it off. I was always in great shape, my whole life. I never got sick, other than a cold here and there and a day or two of the flu, but never anything that required medication or hospitals. I worked at jobs that required strength and being very active, until I got married. Well it wasn't just the fact that I got married. I got married and I found computers and that ended my rather physical career. I became a computer hardware and software consultant and later an instructor. That job didn't require me to do much more than learn, learn and learn more. The more I learned the heavier I got, amazing. Until I went from 145 pounds to 210 pounds. Even at that weight I didn't try to lose any, not until a vacation to Florida in 1999. We, my wife, son and myself, were in a motel room. I was sitting on the end of the bed in my underwear and my son snapped a picture and I just snapped. I have never lost my temper in that fasion, ever. I screamed at my son until I was dizzy and all because I was embarrassed. I even destroyed his camera. He cried, I cried and my wife was in total shock. They had never seen me like that. We continued with our vacation and I aplogized a hundred times but things were never the same. Thanks to a son being foolish. No one really noticed that I had changed. My life was exactly the same. I worked did all the same things, but I started to leave food on my plate and then I started taking smaller portions. I didn't starve myself and I didn't tell anyone but one year later I was down to 160 pounds. And I am still pretty close to that now. If I had of done other things like exercise and drink plenty of water I would have done it even faster. So I really do thank my son for that day in a cheap motel room on the way to Florida.

I agree, this is a really great response to a discussion. I think this is what myLot is about--community supporting and sharing with one another. Good work.

If u start taking hot water instead of normal water and have a walk for an hour after night meal and in morning, it would work great. Never use cold drinks and cut down coffee, chocolates, butter, ice-creams and sweets from your menu.

Thanks for the sugestion. I didn't know that it really mattered if the water was hot or cold. I'll try it and see what happens because i want to lose more weight.

Some people have been reading a junk e-mail that claims, falsely, that cold beverages cause cancer. It is in a discussion here, and I referred people to the website snopes.com, that explains why that is not true. Actually, the way I understand it, cold water rehydarates you better. I think the key is to drink the water however you like it.

Good luck, Jamie, I admire your success. I hear you have given up smoking, too. You are going to be such a healthy example for your kids. Other thoughts are to play outside with your kids, for your well being, and it helps with weight and fitness. I drink unsweetenedn green tea, tnat seems to help. The water and walking are supposed to help the smoking, I do not know, because I have never smoked.

Ok, help with loosing and keeping weight off. Eating because you are bored? Ok, eat fruit. Eat slowly, let your brain catch up with your stomach. You'll feel full on less. Soda of any kind stays with the body longer than water. Fruit juice will satisfy the 'need for sweet' plus toss some extra vitamins your way. Chew gum. Strange as it sounds it doesn't have to be sugarless, the calorie count is super low anyway. Chewing gum gives you two extras, you are exercizing your gums and teeth along with the jaw muscles, plus you are actually cleaning your mouth! Neat huh? Exercize? Hate it? Dance. Yep dance around with the broom, vacuum, boogie while washing dishes. LOL! Good cardio and burns calories. Here's a trick you hardly ever hear...exercize 1 hour after you eat. Yep. You'll burn those fresh calories first, then the 'fat calories' your body has been storing can be used to keep your body going. Sleeping burns 61 calories an hour. Reclining reading or watching TV burns 68 per hour. Sitting at the computer posting to Mylot 88 calories per hour. Yep getting some help here too...LOL! Watch the fat content in your diet. The body will store fats quickly if there is an over abundance being consumed. Stretching also burns calories and helps the muscles oxygenate which in turn burns more calories. Last hint. Give yourself an occasional break from diet and exercize. Eat what you want for a day or two every couple weeks. Eat more some days than others, the body adjusts to consume calories according to your consumption...so 'fool' your body.

that's good for you, it's ok for us to loose pounds on our body, but be cautious with what you were doing. According to the doctors, it's not good to loose weight for not eating the food you need. You have to take some supplements in order for your body to function properly, you might loose weight but might loose the nutrients you need for not eating well. Their are healthy food you may eat that won't get you fat.

Good for you! Doesn't it feel great when you lose a bunch of weight? It makes you feel like nothing is impossible! I found that staying busy was a really good way to prevent overeating. Many people eat when they are bored. Keep up the good work! You deserve the best for yourself!

Yes it does feel great and it was just what i needed to boost my self asteem. once that was done i felt so good. I am one of those board eatters but it's gotten worse now because i've quite smoking. it's hard for me so what do i do when i want a smoke. I start eatting chips or anything that's a great snack(junk food). I know it's very bad for me to do this. but i've got a good handel on it all now.

I think as you. I believe that everything is possible for that they believe itself exactly. Therefore bigger force does not exist that the force that we have inside of us. It continues thus and never it gives up its objectives.

Congrats on losing the weight. When i lived with my parents while i was going through cancer, i was a bit heavy set, and they live in the country and have horses. So i was doing alot of horseback riding, and walking. I did loose about a good 30-40 lbs in 3-4 months. But WOW, And congrats! I actually could walk to work from where i live now, but the traffic is really bad, and its not worth getting run over by the crazies on the road. A friend of myne was hit by a poilice officer and what the sad part is the poilce officer didnt even stop after he hit him. He stated in court he was on a high speed pursuit (Um yea right, this town has never had one) and of course he wasnt on pursuit which was verified by dispatch and he did lose his job. Congrats again!!

Wow that's so inspiring. I'm definitely going to try to do that. I'm an exercise science major but I have just completely let myself go. I love to eat EVERYTHING and sometimes i just eat for no reason in order to make myself feel "happy." Well i'll be starting an accelerated nursing program this January and I know that because the program is so rigorous I'll be running around a lot. I hope that i will be able to lose weight the same way you did. I was very excited to hear your story because It assures me that it is possible to lose atleast 10lbs within 2 months. Thanks for your story

Thank you for this post. It was very inspirational. I don't drink pop, but I also don't drink water. You reminded me that I need to drink water and I need to get out and walk. I just bought new walking sneakers and I got an ipod for Christmas. I think I will find lots of inspiration here on mylots. Wish me luck - I have about 100 pounds to lose.

I do wish you a lot of luck. Once you lose that big amount it will be a little harder to lose the reast. I know it started to slow down after i lost the first 45 pounds. If you believe in your self then you can so it. Good luck and thanks for the response.

That's a very inspirational story. I need to lose about 50 lbs and it just seems like it's very hard. I'm a stay at hom e mom and it's hard to get out and go walking. But I plan on starting soon. I am also trying not to eat as much and drink more water. I hope I can lose this extra weight soon.. Thanks for posting your story. :).

Nice job. I lost 80 pounds over a short time, with methods detailed in a topic of mine. It feels so much better being the weight I am now than being 285 - even though I was young, I still didn't have near as much energy and athleticism as I do now.
