Cat with an overbite...should I take him to the vet?

I have two cats, a short haired tabby and a 3rd generation Bengal mix (beautiful spots). My tabby is just over 5 years old and within the past year has developed an overbite. In addition to the overbite, around his mouth looks like it is puffy and swollen. Has anyone dealt with this before? Should I take him to the vet? Advice greatly appreciated!

Yes, please take him to the vet immediately. Adult cats do not "develop" an overbite. Just like all animals and people they can be born that way. It is possible that he either has an abcess or a tumor. Do not wait!!! Go immediately.

That's what I was thinking too. I hope this person will do that, she has gotten that advice a few times in the forum where she first posted.

I was about to say no but on reading your topic more carefully I have changed my opinion. If an animal is born that way there is nothing wrong but.. "developed" swelling it sound like an injury I would definitely have it checked out. I could be causing him pain.

I just remembered that I needed veterinary advice and it was on a holiday weekend so I could not get to my vet's office. I found this website www.vetinfo.com it cost me $9.00 but it was worth it they asked questions back and forth and gave me advice that my vet agreed with and saved me a lot of money from an expensive vet visit.

This is more do as I say, not as I do. It is important to get your cats' teeth cleaned periodically. I had to have an elderly cat put to sleep once, because the vet said the trauma of dealing with her bad teeth would probably kill her. Especially since you say he looks puffy and swollen, you should take him for an oral exam.

Maybe he had a fight with another cat or a dog and got injured. He could have scratches or some remnant in his mouth or tongue. Go to a vet ASAP.
