what does your local govt do in celebration of christmas and new year?

here in davao city (philippines), our local govt puts up wonderful decorations in the city hall (see pic) and organizes several contests like the most festive baranggay or the best choir=) also the mayor gives free food and brings the hottest celebrities in our city to perform and make the masses happy. on the flip side, firecrackers are banned and only sparklers and nondangerous "firecrackers" are allowed.
how about in your city? does the local govt join in the festivities?

what! why? is it because you dont celebrate christmas or your local govt just doesnt care in making the holidays happier for its constituents?

This is understandable. There are some groups of people who do not celebrate the seasons you have mentioned. Maybe it is because of their religious affiliation or due to culture and traditions which others observe. Most of us are just simply unaware of this. I belong to a religious sect which does not observe nor hold festivities during Christmas. The new year though, being an occasion which occur due to the coming in of another year, is just fine if there are members who opt to celebrate it.

Our local government (barangay) holds Christmas parties on our Barangay Hall every Christmas. We also have the occasional Amateur Talent Show.

I am from Davao City, too, and I like the way the seasons are being observed the quiet way. The city though, still manages to vibrate with life because, the people will always innovate. The lights and the decorations can very well speak, how happy the people are, during the observance of the holidays. The city hall gets highlighted because, it is the center of attention during these occasions. The city mayor serves his greetings with some food also for everyone who will come around the downtown area where the city hall is located on some select days.
