"Alexander the Great" in Koran, a contradiction!!

The "Zul-qar-nin" or "Zul-qar-nan" mentioned in the Koran is Alexander the Great and states that he was a great Muslim? Well! that's what the Yusuf Ali the English translator & commentator of Koran also believes and if so then this is a clear contradiction, because Alexander was not a Muslim and also that he lived and died much before the Koran was written.
