India is a great nation which has a history of civilised culture for over 6000 - 10000 years. but i think and believe that our culture is more older than that. the well known gifts that india gave to the world are- Yoga, Buddhaa, or buddhism and ayurveda (the science of herbal medic medicines). We gave the world "Holly Gita" that stresses upon 'Karma' (the action).Karma is the only truth. you will gain only when you do 'karma'. all what we get is allways a result of our karmas or actions. The word "GOD" which is the english name for the allmighty, has also its roots somewhere in Indian mithology.GOD is made of three words- the Generator,Operator and Destroyer. in indian mitholgy there is a word 'Trimurty' which means the trinity of three 'devas', Brihma, Vishnu and Mahesh or Shiva. Brimha is the generator who creates the world, Vishnu is the operator who operates and takes care of the world, and Shiva is the Destroyer who destroys the world when there is all evil and sin to provide the base for a new creation.so i am proud of being an indian. but also i would like to say that my culture says 'Vasudhav Kutumbakam' that means 'Entire world is a family'. so we are all members of the same family. how beautiful is this thought. dont you think this is remarkable for today's time where war and hate are threatening humanity?? give me your opinions, and if you want to know more about indian culture and our belifs , plz feel free to ask me.

Hello Amit, great discussion. I am very happy that you have started such discussion. Let this be a discussion that can remove some misconception the people of Europe and America have about Indians. In this forum I have seen another member asking some very seemingly absurd questions, I don't know whether it is because of his ignorance about India or simply to diminish its stature. I am sure that the time you are going to devote to this discussion will be a time spent for a worthwhile cause. Thank you
Amit. Go on. I WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY A VERY HAPPY AND WONDROUS NEW YEAR!!!!!

thank you sir. thanks for encouraging me. i have joind this site only two days back. but i am feeling that this is a good place for doing good things like meaningfull discussions. then i thought why shouldn't i start a discussion which is about india? and indian values. the idea was that what others know about us and what they want to know. also i thought that may be we can help them leaving such misconceptions about our culture. i am really very happy that you appreciated my view. i will further need your guidence. thank you. also a very happy and prosperous new year for you and your family.

no i did not reserched in any formal way. i learnt all this by reading our history.
as for as the mentality of indian men is concerned, you may call it the cultural corruption. their thoughts have been corrupted. otherwise indian culture says to respect woman. In our mithology all the power of the God is known as 'Shakti' , which is worshipd as Goddess Durga. that means our culture says that power is Shakti (or a woman). in other words woman is the power.in our holly books its written that ' janani janmabhumisch swargadapi gariyasi' that means mother and the motherland is above all even the heavens. we worship woman as the power or Shakti.

india has 18 official languages. and many more languages which are spoken in different part of india. i think the number of total languages spoken in india is more than 500. this includes the languages of different tribes too.
in india, king cobra, pythons, vipers, watersnakes, and many other snakes are available. but king cobra is a very poisenous snake, which is in indian culture, worshiped as Nag dev and is assumed as the garland around the neck of Lord Shiva. lord shiva is the god of destruction, thats why he is called Mahaakaal. i think thats the reason why a very dangerous snake like king cobra is shown as the garland of his neck. perhaps this is the most amazing fact about king cobra that its being worshiped here for anciant times and here many people do not like to kill them. sometime our religious belief are very helpful to save the animals and the nature. isn't it?

when India got indipendence in 1947, the king of then Kashmir state Raja Harisingh decided to not to join either countries. he decided that kashmir will remain a separate indipendent country. But when in 1948 pakistan army in (face of Kabailies) attacked kashmir and tried to occupy it then the king approached to Indian govt. and signed the papers to hand over the state to india. but Jawaharlal nehru added a section in the treaty that if someday kashmiri people want not to live with india they can do this by voting . this was the greatest mistake nehru made and it has now became the biggest problem of India. Nehru did that to satisfy his selfish desire of 'to be called a great leader'. but what we have experienced is , millitants have threatened the Hindus and sikhs living there by killing them and thus had forced them to leave the valley. so hindus are in minority now, in kashmir. now they want that a voting must take place and the majority of these muslims will vote in support for a free kashmir. and pakistan will then either occupy it or set up a dummy government. but still the mejority of kashmiri muslims do not want to go with pakistan or a free kashmir. bcz they know that in pakistan even those muslims who left india to live in pakistan, are called 'Mohajirs' and have a secondry status. but islamic millitants are forcing them by threatning.
it must be the part of india. It is the part of india. first of all the division on the basis of religion was wrong. religion is not to devide people but it is to unite us. now all we know that islamic terrorists are creating same problems in all the parts of world. They want to make Dagstan in chechnya which is a part of russia. so should they allowed?? and in india everyone is free to follow his religious belief. and indian government gives a lot of funds for the development of kashmir. more than of that what it gives to other states.
well... ok , if you think you are a true indian and if you believe in humanity , ask to yourself, ask to your heart that should kashmir not be a part of india?

my friend you said that whats being done to make india a place where all the Gods reside. it shows that atleast you have a hope that we can make India so.!!! yesssss thats the thing. thinking in such positive way can only make india finds its glory back. and as far as the work being done on the level of government, its not so satisfactory, but govt can not do that unless we ourself are not start thinking in a broad way.
