How would you pacify your child when child throws tantrums in a shopping mall?

I have a 2 year old and have to take her along for shopping. She sees something which she likes, she will immediately ask for it even though it is not useful for her. Have tried many remedies reading from the internet and books but to no avail. If anybody is experienced on this issue would appreciate his/her advise on this.
