Are you satisfied with the way you are taught in school?

I am way past school age and so is our son but I do believe that somewhere in the system the basics have been lost. There are so many chilren and young adults out there who do not know how to spell, their writing is bad and they cannot add up without a calculator. In addition they no longer do sport in lots of schools, so we have all these children who are overweight and do not exercise at all.
I think we need to return to the basics of reading, writing, arithmetic, play sport and religious values. The latter does not need to focus on the Church but more how to be a good neighbour/citizen.

You covered all my main points perfectly. Thanks. It is so true. Another thing that I can't stand is that most teachers aren't willing to actually teach. For example, they briefly explain a concept and throw excessive homework at the kids. Do they correct the homework....no they don't. My son failed English because of this. He wrote anything on the paper and just turned it in and he'd get full credit. Seeing the full credit for the homework I assumed he was doing well. When the tests came he'd fail, which downed his grade because he didn't learn anything. I can see how a student can get left behind so to speak.

I agree that it is not right. We were lucky with our son in that he went to a good school (Catholic school) and the teachers did care. We have friends who have young children still at school and when we are there, I check their homework etc. Now the parents do it as well and if they see something that they think is not right, they talk to the school about it.
That is paying dividends for them and their son.
I hope your son catches up although it will be a bit of a grind for him as he has possibly been coasting along till now.
Good luck. :)
