I saw the movies and I am such a loser because I couldn't wait for the release of the 3rd movie so I read the books. I read the Hobbit first!

i read the book and was really excited when they started to make a movie for it. however, the movie series was disappointing. it's not really bad, it's just not as great as the book.

Lord of The Rings is the best book i've ever read.

I read the book long before any of the movies came out. I think they followed the book series quite well. We have all the movies and we watch them every now and then. Can never get tired of watching it.

I watched the movies first and then i went to my Barnes and Noble, and bought myself the complete trilogy. I am currently in the middle of the Two Towers. I love the book, but on some parts, it does take a bit of focus. It is really good, and i would recommend anyone who watched the movies, to then go out and read the books to.
or if you just read the books, go out and watch the movies! :)

I liked the books better than the movies, but I still loved the movie too! Just not as much.

I have both read the books...plural...there were three. And let me just say I enjoyed both...However getting through all of them was difficult. You get so lost in the discription of where you are or (even worse) where this person came from. "Blahblah son of Blah"...for quite a bit of the books. But regardless, if you can get past that and just stick with the stories you will paint your own picture. And if you were fortunate enough to read the books before you see the movies, I found that the movie was what I had seen in my own mind's eye while reading the books. My excitement to hear that these movies were coming out was totally satisfied with all three expierences. I LOVE THEM...EXCELLENT!!

I've read and reread the book many times over. And the bf just loves the movies so I've seen them all many times over as well since he got trilogy extended edition dvds from the guys at work. And as I mentioned in a books vs. movies discussion earlier. LOTR is one of the few books where I was actually impressed by the movie. I didn't go see it in the theaters because I just get so upset when I pay good money to see a movie in which I loved the book and then I'm disappointed when the movie blows.(Battlefield Earth is a prime example of that). But I'm glad we own the dvds and there have been times where we curl up on the couch and he's watching the dvd and I'll read the books :)

I've seen the movies and I've read the books. I prefer the books. I didn't really enjoy all of the dramatic changes to the characters that happened in translating the book to movie-form. Overall, though, I do think that the movies were very, very enjoyable, but I just felt that perhaps the emphasis was on staying true to the landscape instead of staying true to the characters.
