Update on cat found with tin can on it's head

Thank you so much for all the comments about the cat my husband found yesterday. We still don't know if it's male/female, we just want to give it a bit of space to calm down. It will be traumatised for a while so we want to leave it in the shead for a few days because we have other animals and I don't want them to frighten it even more. I'm also seven months pregnant so I don't want to catch anything from the cat myself. We rang the local ISPCA and they told us they were full and could not take the cat. But they told us they will contact the vet that we brought the cat to yesterday and they will arrange to pay for the cat to be nutered if we keep it. So of course we agreed! (rescue cat no.4!, we also have two rescued dogs!) So we will be bringing the cat to the vet on Wedensday morning. We'll get the cat fully checked out there and we will get it wormed and de-fleed if it needs it. I can't get a good look at the cat today because it's been hiding behind a chair in the shead (I'd love to go in and give it a cuddle but I can't just yet!). But it's been getting fed very well and everything we put in there it gobbles up so at least it's getting good nurishment. It's been drinking loads of milk, we've been leaving in water too but I think it really prefares the milk! I will post a picture of the kitty on here when it's well and I'll give everyone another update! Thank you all for caring and thanks to all the very loyal and passionate animal lovers out there. Keep looking after all animals that you come across because most of them can not look after themselves. Please teach your children to love animals and to be sensitive to their feelings, and ask them to put themselves in the animals position. My unborn child will be raised up to fight for animal rights and to never be cruel to them. If we all did that this world would be a great place to live in! Best of luck to you all and have a peaceful safe happy new year!!! XXX ;0)

First off sorry being late to respond to this. I want to say that what you and your husband are doing for this cat is awesome and I have high respect for people who rescue animals and especially abused ones that are left to fear those of us who love animals. I can totally understand why he would be traumatized after something like this and I wanted to know if you can get your hands on something called Bach Rescue Remedy? Rescuers and shelters I know of use this and I use it also for the feral cats. It helps to reassure and calm the animal and is made of flower essences. You place 4 drops in the water bowl. A friend of mine who's brother works for Brinks found a kitten once in a dumpster with his head frozen in ice. He was able to rescue it and they have had this cat for over 3 years now. Rescuing is a beautiful thing (explains why I have so many cats in my care LOL) and again I want to thank you and your husband for rescuing this kitty and offering it a life full of love, security and care.

Hi thanks for the tip about the rescue remedy! I have a herbal drop thing it's called highly strung, we got it because one of our rescued dogs still has his little issues! *L* and we use it on him and it does calm him down, it's a herbal drop too so maybe I'll try it on the cat. But I'll keep a look out for the one you suggested, I have heard of it before. Nevermind what I'm doing for the cat what you do is pretty amazing! Keep it up you sound like your a very committed person and that's exactly what the cats need. We all apriciate what you are doing! Best of luck and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I commend you for taking in and rescueing the pets you have. I live in such a small place and so strapped for cash that i was so happy to see there was someone like me out there thats doing what I'd like to do. I myself recused an abused pitbull 3 years ago thats my life. So again thank you for caring as much as you do for pets.

Thanks for the nice comments. The cat is still in the shead, we keep going out to see if it's ok every few hours. We have a bad storm here today so I hope he's not too scared. It's good to hear about you and your bitbull! I'm glad you gave it a home. Happy new year!

Shadow Walker! Good on you about your two cats. Once your cat is comfortable with you and people in your house that's the most important thing. Try to talk to it alot, some cats love that! My cats do, espically my female cat Cleo, I call her my princess! So try to get everyone in the house talking to them and if they like bits of chicken or tuna as treats maybe try to get different people in the house to feed it to them to make the cats feel special. If they don't trust other people, well sometimes that can be a good thing it might keep them out of danger. Good luck with them! Happy New year!

I did not read about this previous...The cat had a tin on it's head? That is horrible...I am glad that you are such nice people and are trying to help this animal. We have a stray outside too..and my boyfriend keeps wanting to bring it in..but we already have a cat..so I am not sure...but we help it when we can....I hope you have a good new year as well.....and keep doing what you are doing..the world needs more people like you...

Thanks for the nice comments. I think it's good that you give a bit to the stray cat. He could be a really good cat too, but some cats love to be outside a lot too. If you leave a water bowel out and the odd bit of food for him that's still helping, it could be saving him really. Happy new year.

Cat - Cat visited us one day and called it home.
The world is a better place with folks like you around. Thank you so much for the caring that you give to poor helpless animals. It's such a shame. And when they're abused to boot, I just have such a hard time believing that people are like that. I hit the parks and leave food where I see them playing. They're just too fast for me to catch, though. Someday I hope to have a home where I can keep several animals, too. This picture is of "Cat", who adopted us. We'd never seen him before, but he showed up as we were leaving for vacation. A week later when we returned he was waiting! So, of course he stayed.

Thanks for caring enough to make a post. We'll make sure the cat gets well looked after. I'll put up a picture in here when it's feeling better, and when I can let him out to be with the other cats. But right now he seems to be still very scared and nearvous. Your cat looks really nice, he looks very confadant in that picture! Best of luck with him. Happy new year!

You are doing the correct thing. I think the cat will get adjusted with the surroundings very soon and then it will itself start moving free. That should be the time you can try and find out more about the cat. I hope it does not have any other hidden injuries. I must appreciate your kindness in treating the cat. Unfortunately everyone is not like that.

Your dog is sooo cute looking! He looks lovely. I think it's great that you did not mind how old he was because thats not important when you find a dog that you can make a bond with. He must have trusted you right from the start. Best of luck with him, I bet he loves you to bits too! Happy new year!

Thank you for the update. It is good to do that because we often wonder what happens in a case like this. I am so glad there are caring people in the world. It is good the SPCA will have the cat neutered for you. Lots of luck on the baby. I have a great grandson who is my prode and joy and he only lives across the street and three houses down. That is he and I sleeping in the chair in my picture. He isn't quite 2 months old. Babies arer a real gift from God.

For you to take the time to rescue the cat and take care of it, says alot about what good people you are. Not everyone will get involved. Your children will learn from your good examples. Keep up it!

I hope my kids will know all about animals and how to care for them. I know I'm going to try to teach them all I know. The most important thing is to be responsable for your own animals and care for them. Happy new year!

Oh fantastic, it's good to hear that it is doing well, and everything seems like it's going to be okay for the poor little thing. Again, I must say that I really commend you and your husband for the things you do, and I wish there were more people out there just like you two! Unfortunately there are not enough people like us out there!

Im feeling so much better now, after reading what you are doing for the cat and that its eating and drinking well. I am sure he/she will recuperate completely from the trauma and will be a loving pet to have around the house. Good luck once again!

Bravo for this discussion starter!! I have such a huge heart for animals and I am actually more sensitive towards them than I am human beings. I think something else we should encourage our children to do, is to fix their pets when they get them. The pet world is overpopulated to begin with and so it's not fair to bring more puppies and kittens into the world until this is under control.

I am glad that you have had a good rescue and we all know that you will be as loving to the new one just as you did with the rest of them. You are a wonderful women for doing that. poor cat.call other local pet shelters and see if they have room. there are so many cats and dogs in the shelters. it's good that you have rescued other pets too. animals need homes bad. the cat will take a while to warm up to anyone since it went through all that. i love your picture of that little gray kitten on the bottom of the screen. good luck on getting the kitten well.
