Saddam Hussain today became a history as he was hanged to death in much regretful way for a former head of state.Being a head of state a person is entitled to some respect. But Saddam was not given. I know he had committed many crimes against humanity but he should have been sentenced to life imprisonment rather.Being a head of state he was the person with lot of information which can be later used. Also that his death would temporarily increase the violence but ensure that Iraq is safe after Americans leaves the country and there is no chance of a Saddam coming back to power again.

Since Saddam is part of history in which generations will talk about,it's worth the discussion. He's had a massive impact on some peoples life, yes negatively but also positively,it's just the world we live

I'm confused by your posting- Saddam was indeed a tyrant, and he committed countless crimes against his own people. So how is it that he "deserves" any respect for his position as former head of state? Any good that he might have done was totally negated by his vicious crimes. He deserved absolutely no respect. Yes, there will be some ill-will and increased violence in Iraq as a result of this; and in some other Muslim countries as well, I suspect. I disagree with you about Iraq being safe only after the Americans leave the country. The Americans are there to make life safe for the Iraqis- the Americans are NOT the problem; it is the people of Iraq who are making it unsafe for themselves.

Let's ask the thousands of people he murdered what they think. Respect? What did he ever do to deserve any?

this is true, but bush is on the winning side, saddam was the one found hiding in a hole in the ground, never mind he has been sent to hell the world can celebrate

This U.S. system of government doesn't know what respect is....unless they are demanding it from someone they are picking on for profit!....touchy subject! Saddam will be remembered as a martyr of another kind...in an odd way he should represent the truth...or at least he sould make you realize that we do not get enough of it...the truth that is! peace to all! Dissposition

I don't think most of his own people are going to think he is a martyr. Most realize/know he was just a murderer.

There's no point of even killing him or osama. IF they go down another person is going to be just like them. So all in all there's no point.

Ya i agree with u ,the way he was executed in a hurry was not at all acceptable.Us must have adopted some other policy in this context.now his execution will not solve any of the problems in IRAQ rather it will start a series of violence in IRAQ. NOw they should be prepared for a lot of bloodshed in iraq as there r a lot of saddam supporters

My view is that its simply waste of spending time discussing such a matter that has been in history...we should welcome the new year with some good news and gud discussions

It does not matter if we liked Saddam or not. We needed him to stay in power and to rule Iraq. The people in Iraq are basically made up of Kurds, Sunnis, and Shias. All three groups do not seem to get along well together. We needed Saddam as the glue to hold Iraq together. Without Saddam Iraq may very well split up into several different parts, dominated by Iran.

I think Saddam really deserves a punishment like that. Genocide is very very inhumane as hell. He really deserves more of that.

yeah thats right .....he should have been given life imprisonment, he should have been treated as a prisoner of war but was not , this surely hurt the sentiments of many people, and also the day chosen to hang him , it was Bakrid in the Guld the auspicious day of Eid and he was hanged , people instead of celebrating should mourn over his hanging. violence wil grow more in iraq, and after how the shia people are celebrating his hanging more n more sunni's in iraq wil try to vent their anger .....violence wil surely increase.

But if he was imprisoned for life, then there's a chance the he could escape.
