I think that most UK fans of Pink Floyd are of a general concensus regarding the best track; 'Comfortably Numb' is always the highest ranking Floyd song in all the 'Best song ever' lists I've seen in the media, and it is a truly magnificent piece.
Album is a much harder proposition though. I hate 'The Final Cut', too much lyric, too little music. 'The Division Bell', 'Dark Side' & 'A Momentary Lapse of Reason' each have several really good tracks. So, I'll cheat and say that 'Pulse' is the best album, although the backing vocalists for 'Great Gig in the Sky' on 'Delicate Sound of Thunder' are better. If you deem this answer as a cop out (which it probably is), then perhaps I could suggest the soundtrack album for the film 'More', just for the Mud Men vocals on the last track, inspired.

I really am not a fan of 'musicals', yet I could watch 'The Wall' time after time. I think the imagery that accompanies 'Comfortably Numb' helps add to the song, and when you add the extended guitar solo on the live versions, it becomes immense. I was lucky enough to see the delicate sound tour at Maine Road in Manchester, and the track really fitted the mood of the evening.

I don't agree with the comment about the Final Cut. It is perhaps my second favorite due to the fact that it's underated brilliance of an underscoring effect continuing on the heals of the Wall... but too little music?? you must be joking. maybe not so much the rest of the band apart from Roger, but equally a fantastic release. I should also mention Roger's - Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking... similar sound to final cut, but much lighter content..

If you think about it, though. There were actually 3 different bands. The first was with Sid Barrett. When Sid left and Roger Waters took over, the sound changed completely. Then when Roger left, it changed again. I have to say i prefer the Waters years. Animals is my all-time favorite album. "Pigs, All three Kinds" being my favorite song. But one cannot forget "the Wall," both the album and the movie. Classic Floyd.

I personally enjoyed Dark Side of the Moon the most. I think the album "Echoes" is the best to buy though, since its a greatest hits album with pretty much everything you'd need from Pink Floyd.
I saw the lead singer Roger Waters play Dark Side of the Moon and a bunch of other great songs this summer, it was SWEET! Very expensive tickets
My favorite songs are:
Echoes
Comfortably Numb
Careful with that Axe Eugene
Us and Them
Shine on You Crazy Diamond
Brain Damage/Eclipse
Wish you were here
Hey You
the list goes on

Wasn't Waters committed at one point? I think right after the release of The Wall. Now that music was insane, I love it!

pink floyd is my favorite bands, all albums like you said sounds very different, in every album pink floyd experiments a lot and made many changes in their sound.
my favorite album could be the dark side of the moon.
the gilmore´s solo projects are good but i think that he is miss something, I don´t know what but the albums miss something.
Waters has a lot of excellent works with his band, the last month i went to a concert of him and he is a excellent musician.

Though my favourite song is Wish You Were Here, and I love that whole album, I think may favourite album is Dark Side of the Moon. The title track is brilliant. I would have a hard time sorting them after that, except that the post-Waters stuff would be at the bottom.
