How do you get your avitars to be animated?

I have tried to do it but it does not work.I get the picture but no movement.

As has already been mentioned you need to use an animated gif. However, you will find that many animated gifs will appear animated while others will will not. They will even animate in your profile but not on the discussion page where they appear.
This is usually due to the size of the image, so if you keep the image to a maximum of 60 pixels either way it will work perfectly.
If you have a problem resizing an animated gif, then upload it to your images and post the title here, I shall resize it and upload it again.

Can you please tell me how to re-size my avatar. I want to use it for the forum site where I work but it is to big. Thanks!!!

If an avatar is animated, then it consists of several images that the computer displays in rotation, just the way the television shows static images from a film in fast sequence to make it move. You would therefore need to resize each image inside the animated gif.
The easiest way is to use animation software, which will resize all the images at the same time for you. I do not know if any freeware programs are available to do this. I use Ulead gif animator to resize an animation for use as an avatar.
