I think that many Americans believe that France is full of a bunch of sissy-pansies who wouldn't help us fight a war in Iraq. I don't care how anyone feels about the war, but if you're an ally of the United States then you should act like it and stop worrying about fashion.

It is not beacause we are an ally of USA which we have to approve all that they say and all that they make, especially when they make stupid things... At the beginning americans have us insult but I charmed to see that today they share this opinion, like we say in France: there is only imbeciles which don't change an opinion ^^

I think that many Americans have different feelings about the French just as many people have different feelings about Americans ... It would be hard to make a decision about an entire nation of people ...
But, France is not considered a strong nation in my mind, though I certainly love a lot of French food.

I really like France. I know the French are supposed to be rude, but in practice I have found them to be charming and polite.
My favourite part of France is Normandy. I stayed in Caen on holiday some years ago, and enjoyed the town and the history, with William the Conqueror's cathedrals and so on. And I got rather addicted to pommeau, which is this apple based apperitif they serve before each meal!

I attended a French school as a child, in London. I have been to France many times, including almost a year in my favourite city, Paris. I like the French countryside very much; I like French culture very much; and I also like French people very much. France is a fascinating and beautiful country. I like French film; and French music, whether Debussy; or Piaf. I also like French humour very much, especially the films of Tati; and the Asterix books. I'm a Francophile.

The ancestors of the French are the Gauls, who established themselves in the 6th century B.C. After the defeat of their leader, Vercingetorix (see picture), they were conquered by the Romans, who came from the Italian peninsula, and were later invaded by different peoples from the east of the continent until the 6th century A.D.
After the reign of the Franks, who gave their name to France, and the Emperor Charlemagne (742-814), a large part of the country was governed by hereditary royal families who handed down power among themselves after the 10th century. The monarchy reached its highest point with Louis XIV (1643-1715). Although he was called the Sun King and built the château de Versailles, the country suffered from war and poverty during his reign.
On July 14, 1789, the people of Paris stormed the Bastille, an old fort and royal prison, and rose in rebellion. The French Revolution ended the monarchy and set up the Republic. In 1791, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen proclaimed the principles of liberty and equality for all.
But the French Republic had to fight wars against European monarchies. The victorious French general, Bonaparte, set up an imperial government and became emperor, taking the name Napoleon Ist (1804-1815). He erected the Arc de Triomphe in tribute to the French armies. Before he was defeated, he reorganized the administration, the justice system and finances and created a centralized state which was to turn France into a modern country.

I'm from the United States and I don't know a whole lot about France, but from what I do hear it's a beautiful place. Supposedly the transportation system is awesome and the cars are really small. France is on my list of places to visit once I get older and get a stable income. I really want to visit the landmarks like the Eiffel Tower. It's gorgeous! I saw a fake Eiffel Tower at a theme park here called Kings Dominion but it's a whole lot smaller than the real one.
