Man races pigs near planned mosque site

A Texas man, upset about an Islamic associations plan to build a mosque near his property, has arranged pig races in protest during afternoon prayers.
Mr. Baker said that he held the races to protest what he felt was a slight against him. The previous owners of the land allowed him to let his cattle graze on the land--the Muslims however will not allow him to do this. He also believed that they were after his land as well.
He served sausages and merchandise at the soaking wet event--it rained heavily on the day. He said he wasn't trying to offend anyone--although the eating of pigs is forbidden in Islam.
"I am just defending my rights and my property," Baker said. "They totally disrespected me and my family."
The Islamic associations leader said they don't hate pigs..they just don't eat them. The spokesman for the group went on to say that they don't care if he 'races, roasts, or slaughters pigs' it isn't going to change their plans for a mosque, an athletics facility and a school on the land.
Baker has admitted that he was mistaken about them wanting his land, but he said that he had to go through with the race because he would "look like a total idiot if [he] didn't."
I'd have to say that he still does look a bit foolish. They're not after his land..they're improving it with a community athletics center and a school..they couldn't allow the man to let his cattle graze on the land anymore, there just wasn't any land to spare.

Since the land is obviously not his, then he can hardly expect people to believe that he is simply protecting his rights and property. The same argument applies concerning the claim that he had no desire to offend, if that was the case then why not race his cattle instead of choosing pigs?
There is enough racial disharmony around without someone making such offensive gestures. If he wanted to make use of the land for his cattle then he should have offered to buy the land in the first place.

hge is a donkey.it figures that he is from texas.most of the people from texas like your erstwwhile president george bush too is from texas.such people do tend to give abad name to texas.whats mroe i would not put it past mr baker not to approach the president himself on this issue.
if i had been mr baker and i wanted to prevent the mosque from coming up next door then i would have approached this problem differently.i would,have filed a case in the court saying that leaders often incite hatred in the mosque and that i am afaid for my life.that kind of objection would probably be taken a bit more seriously in th u.s
but instead donkey that he is he is holding pig races.if he had done a biot of research he would know that muslims do not oer se object to pigs it is just that they do not eat them,thats all!

Something same happen in our area when the local muslim population tried to build a mosque near a temple the local hindu population raised agaisnt thier hegemoney and prevented them from doing so. It has to remembered that the land belonged to govt and these muslims illegaly occupied the land.

It's a free country, and as long as they aren't doing anything to him, he should mind his own business. They aren't trying to convert him, they aren't bothering him at all, I don't see why people have to act like this. It only increases the hatred in our country.

Although I personally hate muslims, I don't think that Mr. Baker was right. It wasn't his land in the first place, so he had no reason to hold pig festivals.
...but then again I find this even quite funny XD

Hate is a strong word. Maybe you could say I don't like some muslims instead. Usually when we don't know about each other we are very suspicious. I personally know some muslims. Some I like very much as people, others I really don't like but this like and dislike has only to do with the people themselves not their religion.

Oh well, he was really stupid. The Islamic Association must have had a good laugh. I am still trying to figure out how they disrespected him and his family, although it must be a shock to see your neighbours farmland turned into a complex. I can see how he would be upset but one cannot halt progress. He has a choice he can sell up and move elsewhere.

It is not his land so why should he react that way. Maybe he is just afraid that he wont get benefited with the mosque for they dont eat meat. He use to prepare meat thats he is against it.

I totally applaud him maybe a good rib barbecue, as long as its on HIS land, let the muslims whine about it, I love his cojones. I hape he has one every year. Middle class America has been shamed into "tolerating" the crap others dish out for so long when middle class actually stands up people are amazed and say they are "intolerate". I for one will no longer be shamed into having crap rammed down my throat at the expense of my own self pride. I applaud middle class America for finally starting to stand up for themsleves and say ENOUGH!

the ignorance of people here in the south never fails to astound me. Just imagine the public outcry if an Islamic family had burned a cross in their yard across the street from a christian church! But this article has shown up in a couple "New of the Weird" columns and that's it.
I don't think this man had to worry about coming across as an idiot; that came through loud and clear.

That person is so narrow minded and I think he lacks civic sense. If the land is not his own then he should not care for who buys it and who comes in.There are authorities to look after what good or bad is happening if somebody builds mosque. Moreover, it is simply foolish of him to get so scared about a particular religion. Organising pig races is so funny.He has made laughing stock of himself. Some people are so impossible in their acts!!

that's messed up. because it isn't his property in the first place. it's just close to it. he should be arrested for this. he's being a terrorist in a different way because he's terrorising the people trying to worship and pray. he's just gonna have to move his cows because obviously the land was sold. he was trying to offend everyone involved because the guy knew that muslims forbid pigs in all aspects of their life. they didnt disrespect anyone. he's the one that's doing the disrespecting. he didnt have to go through with anything because he looks like an idiot going through with it. he looks really foolish. i agree they are improving the land. schools are needed and athletics facility are good for keeping kids out of trouble and giving them something to do and stuff. that guy needs to get a grip and check his self. cause that was wrong what he did. even though muslims dont eat the pigs it still is offensive because it was animals trampling on their land and no matter what animal it would have been i wouldve have been offended and ticked off. they're ruining the land especially since it rained it was everywhere.
