Well now as we can see that internet is becoming so famous and is the best place for communication. World is becoming small and small due to internet. So i think internet should be provided to each and every residence at free of cost by government. This will make people come closer and a lot of their income will be saved. Even this will decrease the rate of unemployment and hence the country will be gaining more and more. So what r your views?

hey internet is simlar to mobile service there are many private players in the country too, they cant make it free but the thing is that they should make it cheaper, now if we take 256kbps one month validity unlimited in broadband we are charged somwhere around 1100, we should be charged approximately 500 for that not more than that, now fresh news is that internet with speed of 1mbps and 2mbps are release in our country they should charge of about 700-800 for that, i think this will spread education also,

It should not be free of cost, but subsidized. It is happening in Singapore, korea. But only thing the performacnes should be good. If u r india, BSNL gives internet through landline dialup, the performance is very very worst. So if the internet speed is good and if subsidized, then ok.

yea. i think you are right. as how telephone call rates are growing cheaper and cheaper, similarly internet rates too are going lower and lower. so, the government can provide internet at very low rates and slowly move towards making it free of cost

Though I agree with you on this subject it will never be realized. Why? because just like a utility service e.g. telephone, electricity and water these incur costs to operate and companies engaged in these businesses would not agree this to be handled by the government unless that particular country is in Martial Law or a dictatorship. Everything has cost..that is why Mineral water is now sold in stores because there is profit in it. Even if unemployment is still high an individual must find ways and means to make income regardless of his present situation.

If the Government provided the internet, then the Government would also have full control of the internet. I personally don't like that, and even though it seems expensive to go through another company, I would rather still have the freedom to do as I please.

I totally agree with you.As government undertakes the basic necessacities and provide them to public in subscidised rate or free, similarly should be done with internet.Today internet is becomming a necessity rather than a luxery. Also internet is being used for daily utility. All bank trancection all shopping etc. is being done by internet, and in comming years there will be more revolution in the way of living of humans and internet will be playing a key role in this.So government should take a serious look at this matter and take a decision.

Yeah. Its a good idea. An expensive but a good idea. I think it should not be free. But definitely, if everyone will have an access to the internet, then they have to make the rates cheaper. Maybe the government can do tie-ups with the major ISP's and discuss the possibilities of providing cheaper internet for everyone.

Well, the idea is simply too GREAT. but we should not forget that some companies are out there to make money out of this service, just like cellular service. The idea is good but does'nt hold any practical importance. Would u expect any govt. held authority to provide u mobile phone service for free?? Govt. authorities are there to stiff up the competition. if they are providing evrything for freethen no one is going to move up to private companies. hence, even the govt is not going to gain any revenue. but yes, we can expect that the govt. offers this service at a comparitively cheaper rate.

No! I even have to pay more than the average person for mine $22 a month for 200 hrs of dialup! Internet is a service/form of entertainment just like anything else(tv-cable,satalite, phone) People make their livings through the different internet options. If you don't want to pay for internet you shouldn't have it.

well...this is a very good and productive idea as it will reduce unemployement but the main question is who will bound the govt. to take this step???

Internet has always been free, it was created to be free and has remained so. the bills we are paying are the carrier costs to the provider for their infrastructure which needed to bring this free facility to us. so in a way its is paid utility. what can be done is to give a one time payment for a wireless receiver with no recurring bills.

While I think that it'd be nice to have the internet provded to us for free, I think that the government could be putting money towards better things. One example I can think of at the top of my head is having the government fund Humane Societies more than they are now. I'm getting so sick of hearing about animals who have to be out down just because they've been sitting in the shelter for too long! Also I think that the government should be paying for all animals to be spayed or neautered when they enter the Humane Society so that it is not an issue for the owners and to better control the animal population which has become out of control!
