Is alcohol really necessary to have a good time?

Today is New Years Eve and many people are preparing for their special night out. Most of those people will be drinking alcohol, probably too much of it. Can't a good time be had without getting intoxicated? Do you plan to over indulge tonight, or on other special occasions?

Sure you can have a good time sober, and even remember it later. I do not drink. I do not miss it either. I think if I were in the habit of drinking I have had some times where I would have overdone it, to avoid thinking about my problems. I am having a quiet New Year's Eve, but I have had a lot of fun this wee.

Of course a good time can be had without drinking but it's a personal choice. As long as those people aren't drinking and driving, it doesn't bother me.
I don't plan on drinking tonight at all and I'm sure I'll still have a good time.

I know it's a personal choice, I drink too, but I try to avoid becoming intoxicated. Seems at every party or club there are the "regulars" who drink way too much, get way too loud, and generally spoil the atmosphere for others.
