buddy---is it gender based,shall we call a male as buddy?

is there any restrictions to whom we have to use the word buddy.either for male or female

Hi! It's a common gender issue. I use to everyone, and it doesn't matter whether male or female.

The word "Buddy" is not gender specific. You can call a male friend or a female friend a Buddy.

ramya, I dont think it makes gender difference. but, buddy sounds like a male name. but, it is not. i call both girls & guys as buddy. no one has objected or i did not felt any difference in saying them like that. so, it makes no differece.

In Australia we call each other Mate. The government even had to take a vote to see if ppl thought it was discriminatory.

You can call anybody as buddy. Buddy means friend.

buddy comes from the word budd...petals of the budds are close to each other and if some one is close to u then he/she cud b called buddy , unmindfull of his gender/sexes.

U can call any one buddy. It is not gender specific.
