We just gather together before 12mn strikes to say our family prayers. Usually, my grandma leads the prayer.

Hohoho... im chinese and we have several traditions in terms of Chinese new Year:
1. Get your hair cut
2. Pay all of your debts
3. Pray for the next year
4. Do some good deeds
5. All family members gather at one house to celebrate the New Year...

Stop being superstitious and hold on to the word of God alone that has the power to make you a blessing to your generation.

I've never heard of the cleaning thing, but my family has long done the black eyed peas thing.
God, I miss fresh black eyed peas! They don't taste anything like the dried ones, the snaps make them taste soooooo much better!
I think that black eyed peas may be a Florida thing!

My mother's side of the family stay very close together. Our houses are just a stone's throw away from each other. Each new year, each family does their own thing and prepare plenty of food. We usually party and converge in one relative's house then at midnight we all go to our respective homes to spend our first hour of the year with our family. It is believed that if we stay together and have plenty of food and lots of merry making at the start of the year, then the year ahead would be a good one. Then by dawn we all meet again and continue having fun. Very seldom, a person who is not a relative gets to join us. Then by 5 a.m. we would all pack and go to the beach and spend the whole day there with the whole clan...we have been doing this kind of thing for many years. It's a sort of celebration and reunion for all of us.

well my family is not superstitious but we ARE filipino and filipino's are superstitious so there's kind of like a joke about things like that.. we say wearing dots are good luck as all round things are good like so we have round fruits like grapes and oranges.. we're not superstitious tho so i guess its just a tradition that has been passed down... lol i think i contradicted myself.. but thats the truth ! =P
