How many of you have to work today or on any other holiday?

Do you have to work on holidays? Does it bother you to work on these days or do you like working on a day that most people are not working? I used to work in the banking industry and I had to work nights and weekends and almost every holiday. I thought it was crazy for banks to be open late at night and on holidays and weekends. Now on my current job, I have almost all holidays off and no working on the weekends and I love it. How about you?

i hate working on holidays and weekends. i don't think people come to office during weekends or holidays to complete a task. In IT industry people will be in office on weekends and holidays because they don't know what else to do other than coming to office. One more reason is if we come to office, many facilities such as Internet, A/C etc will be there which are rarely present at home.

It stinks working the holidays and weekends but I guess some places are needed to be open on the weekend, like hospitals, police and other emergency occupations as well as other places and stores and restaurants.

Well since my work is done at home on the computer, I can set my own hours. But I still do my work on holidays if I am not going to family's houses. Now when i worked at the nursing home, I hated working on the holidays. mainly beause it was so sad seeing the patients with no family or anyone to visit them. My boyfriend has to work today. He is there now. He had to be in at 6am. But its time and a half so no complaining from me. He, on the other hand, was not thrilled to have to get up today and go to work.

I would certainly love to work from home but I still love my job and that I do not work on most holidays and never work on the weekends either. The only good thing about working holidays and weekends at the bank is that you got paid extra for those hours and days.

Luckily the place that I am employed allows us to have most of the holidays off. For Thanksgiving we get Thursday and Friday off and for Christmas we usually get two weeks off.

That is nice that your workplace allows you to have off most holidays. I am off most holidays well, though not all but am glad to have the major holidays off.

Rarely. I can't stand working on holiday & weekends. Fortunately, I never had to. But my problem is I don't like my job. I wish I could find and get the job that I want to devote all my time to.

As a Customer Service Representative, I have to work on Holidays if it does not fall on my days off which is Weds & Thurs. Surely, I always work on weekends...I really don't mind though even if I work on Holidays...the pay is good :)

I used to work as a credit analyst for a couple banks and had to work weekends and many holidays so I know what it was like and am glad that my new job doesn't require weekends or holidays. The pay is much better though for people working nights, weekends and holidays.

I am working today! I work for a fortune 500 company and in addition to getting paid for the holiday, we get 1.5 times pay for working. That's a total of 2.5 times pay for working on a holiday - not bad!

I guess the one benefit of working holidays is that you get paid extra than you would if you worked normal hours or days.

I work for an online company based out of New Zealand. As I am in the United States, some of our holidays are different. And with the time difference, I am a day behind them. I do work at least one day on each weekend, and I do have a few holidays off. But for the most part, I am working a lot. I worked New Year's Eve and am working today, New Year's Day. But I did have off the day before Christmas, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day, so that was nice.

That is nice to hear that you at least get some holidays and weekend time for yourself and not have to work all holidays and weekends. I hope that you are having a nice holiday season as well as everyone else.

my fiance had to be at work at 7 am so he had to get up at 5:15 this morning. So needless to say we didn't do much last night. I got a little drunk and we went to bed before midnight.

I am sorry that you two did not get to enjoy last night as much as you would have liked to. Maybe next year he will have off so you two can party or do whatever. I went to bed before midnight too but because I was not feeling well.

I been lucky with my past jobs. I had a freelance job where I was able to set my own days and pretty much my own hours as well. If I do have to work on the holidays, I wouldn't mind it.

Some people do actually enjoy working the holidays and in some jobs it is very important to have people who are willing to work on holidays. Some holidays I did not mind working but the major ones I would.

Hi My wife works in the "Care Industry" and she looks after the old people. This means of course that there are no holidays! She works a shift system, and so if her shift falls on Christmas Day or New Years day for example, she works it! For the last three years she has worked every Christmas Day!

I agree with you there as I am glad that I do not work in the retail industry either as it has to be so stressful and hectic right now with the sales and people returning things.

i simply hate working on holidays!! It is so depressing to go to office when the rest of the world is holidaying esp saturdays!!I think all organisations should only work 5 days a week and should make this mandatory!! Weekends should be for the family and for finishing up house chores and some time for yourself!!Otherwise you just step into the the next week without any rest and a tired brain!!

Yes! I almost work on every holiday. For That matter I hardly avail even weekly OFF! Surprised? I am working for a Stud farm in the capacity of a Resident Veterinary Surgeon. Thats the reason I am staying on the farm and attending the cases irrespective of the time. It is same for me, either it is day or night or holiday or an ordinary day! I really don't feel anything about it , I even don't get irritated or get crazy about it, as I love my horses and I know that they require my attention when they are in real crisis. Thats the reason why I work all around the clock and I get a sort of satisfaction to see a horse relieved from pain because of me! People call me an workaholic, but I think I really can't do without it! Yes , then I take Off abruptly to have a fun for a day or two and during that time I along with my son and wife go to some Mall or Sopping complex for some shpping and then see a movie and come back to the farm after having Dinner out side only and in addition to this I definitely make a point to avail my annual leave, which normally I take during our works' Offseason !

That is nice that you love your job and your horses and that your work hours do not bother you. It sounds like you have a very rewarding job and am glad that there are people like you helping our horses and other animals. I love horses.
