I'm not one who's big into reading sci-fi/fantasy novels but I came across The Dark Elf trilogy few years ago and fell in love with the story.
Drizzt is a dark elf who lives underground and they are prohibited from going to the overworld. He decides to one day and so begins the adventure. He is exiled from his homeland, meets with various characters of different people, combats the Spider queen's army.
For a fantasy trilogy based on elves it has so much more to offer. Drizzt is a character I was able to relate to. He is quite human inside. Feeling apart from the rest, seeking himself through adventure this trilogy is humane at its core.
I encourage anyone to read this; it is worth the time.

At this time, I know of no movies being made from these books, nor do I know if any are in the works. The setting of the stories takes place in The Forgotten Realms, a fantasy world which is trademarked by Wizards of the Coast, a Fantasy RPG company. If such a movie were to be made by this story, the studio would have to get liscensing from both the author and this company. On top of that, cost production would probably run about the same as it was for the movies Lord of the Rings, making it rather a big gamble for producers to make a movie for what to them would appear to be such a small audience, i.e. us readers and fans of the books.

It sounds like you've read the FIRST trilogy of the adventures of Drizzt Do’Urden, Homeland, Exile, and Sojourn. R. A. Salvatore has written many more stories about this character, and he has quite a following. If you want to continue reading the adventures of Drizzt, the next trilogy is The Icewind Dale trilogy, followed by Legacy of the Drow, and Paths of Darkness. The newest publications are The Hunter's Blade Trilogy and The Sellswords. Other authors have also taken up the mantle of protraying the character in their own stories, such as Mark Anthony, who has also written a number of books based in the Forgotten Realms. Myself, not only have I enjoyed the stories and characters of Drizzt and his companions, but I've also found Mr. Salvatore's writting style very appealing, where the story flows with the words that are being read. I one time wrote a story and a friend of mine commented that it modeled Mr. Salvatore's writting style.
For Drizzt, he has become such a popular character that there has even been an article submitted to him in Wikipedia. The link is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drizzt_Do'Urden. Happy reading.

I actually have a few other books surrounding this character. The first trilogy had me so captivated that I just continued buying the other books that followed. If I remember correctly there was also a 6 part on the War of the Spider Queen which I made sure to collect all in hardcover.

I am definitely going to have to look into this. I'm not a huge fan of scifi/fantasy either but there are some very good "magical" type stories out there. I'm going to have to look this one up! Thanks!
