hey everyone, I have had type 2 diabetes for 3 years now, my doctor keeps telling me that I am a very brittle type 2 which means that if I don't smartin up I will be taking needles...for some reason I just can't accept that I have this and I eat what I want and do all the stuff I should'nt. I have tried and keep trying to tell myself that this is going to catch up with me...I was wondering does anyone know of a website that I can go to that will help me make up meal plans etc..

Eliminate EVERYTHING with aspartame, equal, etc. in it from your diet. My husband had this same type of problem and his doctor was threatening him with a needle. I saw something on the internet about aspartame and diabetes and it described his problem to a T. We switched everything over to Splenda (sucralose) that was prepackaged/bottled and I bought him stevia for sweetening his tea and coffee. In less than a month his blood sugar was down and under control. Instead of taking 3 different meds and being threatened with the needle he now only takes 1/2 of 1 pill per day and unless he does something stupid with his diet he is very well controlled. Aspartame does not affect ALL diabetics this way but it does affect some and it is in 90% of all the "diet" products out there. Just keep a close eye on your blood glucose readings because when your levels start to drop your doctor will need to reduce your meds.

hi there, well I don't use either of those products, but I do appreciate the info in case I decided to. I don't drink pop just tea and water and I don't use sugar in my tea so I am pretty lucky there, I guess my biggest problem is more what I want to eat, I never was a sweet eater until I was diagonised with this...see the saying is true you don't miss it until you can't have it, now all I do is crave sweets, but 2007 being my year I am going to start baking diabetic stuff that way when I get the craving I will have something that I can have a little of, I find that diabetes is one of those things that oh you can't see what it is doing, well of course you can when I am falling asleep at the dinner table...LOL...but it is one of those things that I can seem to push aside, and I know that is a very bad thing to be doing...so any recipes anyone has out there, I would love to have them

I've heard about it also, aspartame is everywhere to be found in softdrinks and No sugar foods. I am also using this kind of sweetener since it is readily available in the groceries. Splenda in my place is quite hard to find as of yet. I heard from some of my friends here that it is available in here but it is a bit costlier than the aspartame products.

I'm just curious how did you ever find out you had it??? I mean what are the symptoms. Short of going for a blood test how would one know?

Use Stevia as a sweetener. It's an all natural herbal sweetener and it works better than sugar. Plus it is safe for diabetics. I use it in my coffee because it has no fat, no calories, no carbs and is really good for your digestive system.

here are two websites that may be of use to you. I was diagnosed a year ago with type 2 diabetes, so I understand the different emotions you are going through. Good luck with everything.

Hello, were in the same situation but i am quite a newbie in this disease. I am just on my late 30's and i am a diabetic now. I was just recently diagnosed about a couple of months ago. It has not sinked in totally with me that i have the disease but then I am slowly accepting things that I have to be more careful in what I eat and do to prevent the disease from progressing further. I think that is what we all can do to fight this disease. There is no known cure for it yet.

I understand how you feel. I was told that I am prone to diabetes due to a fanily history of the disease. From time to time I get symptoms that make me feel like I may actually have the disease, but I deny it. I love food and it will be hard to go on any strict diet. My father has has diabetes for almost 30 years. He cares very little for diet and exercise but he is fine. Well he is taking insulin injections daily. I think we ought to pay some attention to this. Maybe we can tell ourselves that the need to eat healthy has nothing to do with diabetes but just general health, longetivity all that.

Why you can not, although you are, already, a diabetic person?!
You must be more familiar with this disease because it is a chronic disease, not an acute case.
