Never have been a parent but I was a child. My parents encouraged me to do the best that I was capable of. They gave me support in what I did and never pushed me beyond my capabilities. Only once did my mother push me and that was in my dancing classes. I was a quick learner and fairly talented so that to stay up with the others it was not necessary to practice, practice, practice and I always heard. This irritated me and I quit taking dancing lessons after 6 years of it. This taught my mother not to push me in anything as I had a mind of my own and no matter how much to coaxed or cajoled it would not make me go that step further. On all other fronts she was successful by just saying or asking if I thought I had reached my potential. You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. Know your child's potential and feed it on encouragement and understanding but do not push them to the breaking point as it will only end in disaster in the long run.
