I know there are alternatives to the doctor putting people with anxiety on xanax or valium or even klonepine but have these newer meds worked for you? Which ones and what effect did they have positive or negative??

I tried buspar for a time but ended up having a reaction to it.
Now I just stick with more natural forms of treatment like herbal remedies and yoga.

the only herbal remedie I tried was St. John's Wort. It did not work for me. But I am not familiar with any other herbal remedies for anxiety.

I am on the non habit forming anxiety medication called Buspirone (a.k.a Buspar). I started taking it because it was one of the few non habit forming anxiety medications out there. I am pleased with it and the doctor said I could either take it daily or when i feel i need it. I take it only when I feel I need it. you can find more info about it here.

I have medication for mine that was perscribed and i was told there was nothing i could take that wasnt addictive, but i was in such a state that i just took what they gave me, grrr... wich was clanazapine a form or benzodiazapines ( not correct spelling)bit like valium. i am having so much trouble coming off these to the extent of heart pulpatations, sweating, aching joints, rashes, itching and so on. So please look for a alternative that isnt addictive.
because once your feeling a lot better and down grade your medication you end up sick and addicted.

right now i am on seroquel, which like one of the above commenters, is not habit forming...meaning you could go off it without gettng bad side effects. In fact I ran out once, and couldn't get my perscription renewed three days, and had no side effects, except for my anxiety coming back. The only thing is about seroquel is that i makes me sleepy, so I take it at night.
I have also been on topomax and zyprexa for anxiety. zyprexa didn't do anything for me. I was still jsut as anxious as before. The topomax made me like a zombie. I could not function or concentrate on anything. I couldn't even focus my eyes properly, and i was on the lowest possible dosage!!
For depression I ahve been on effexor for the past five years. but in the past i have been on paxil and zoloft. neither of which worked for me.

Well for depression, medicines are not solution. Do Meditation, try breathing exercise, it will help you balance and handle anxiety.
