Does the media 'demonize' all of our icons?

It seems that from singers, to sport stars and legends, to Presidents the media seems to be on a witch hunt to be the first to poke the nose of the public into the private affairs that we hold up on a pedestal. It seems that they want to tear every one down and look into everyones closet. There are skeletons in everyones closet even theirs. Ask yourself this how come the media let JFK get away with flaunting the whole Marilyn thing even after she ended up dead and Clinton got such a bad rap for the whole Monica Lewinsky thing when they're both still alive to live to tell and even sell publishing rights on their scandalous story.

Yes they report what sells, but what about real news and real issues, these sell as well.

Unfortunately the press and the mass media are focused only on one thing.....what sells. They are impervious to whether it denegrates or demonizes the personality involved. Perhaps it is because the people who by scandal sheets and magazines are only interest in that and not what is happening in the real world. As long as the public buys that trash it will continue never ending. However, if there were to be a boycott on a world-wide scale perhaps, who knows, the amount of the crap that comes off the presses and on the TV screens would be greatly decreased.

You're not going to manage to get that type of boycott going because like you say it sells.

I don't think we can generalise whole media as irresponsible. As there is section of media in india which is concerned with real issues like fighting for justice in the jessica lall case, priyadarshini mattoo case, reporting mass murders in noida, giving voice to students anti resevation, anti quota protests, reporting corruption cases, carrying out sting operations to expose politicians and their misdeeds. And forcing to government to work for people highlighting govenrments mishandling on various issues. so media can do a great job.
But yes there is a section of media that is very irresponsible and is interested in sensatilisng news that sells. What is going on in filmstar's private lives, like kareena -Sahid kapoor mms scandal was all over the media, showing kissing scenes. poorguys, they are young couple who should have been left alone but no it became prime time news and god knows how many people downloaded those mms clips. That just shows section of media is playing with young minds influencuing them in a bad way to make profits, to do anyhting that sells, that is so cheap and vulgar. And it is very sad.
I think media should be made more accountable to people and parliament of India. besides I feel there should be self guildelines brought by media itself as community to discredit such irresponsible sections of media. And people should be taught about harm their wrong choices will make if they only buy sensationsal, cheap stuff and not real serious news.

Talk about scandalous! You'll love this (not):
Our government spent nearly 40 million dollars investigating that BJ. Big deal. I bet even old Honest Abe got one of those once in a while...he had to knock up his maid to have children...anyhoo...
Guess how much was spent investigating 9/11.
1.6 million.
You're right about the witchunt too, they just want us looking at everyone but them..."Hey, look in Tom Cruise's closet while I try to clean out mine." Does seem to be the attitude of the press these days.

that is a sad commentary on our state of affairs. 30 years ago when JFK got more on with Marilyn than that nobody said "Boo! F@#k you! Kiss my butt!" Or "are you still white to either one of them and everybody knew!

I can't argue with the facts, but I would suggest that Bill Clinton could have saved the government the $40 million if he had not tried to cover it up and lied about the affair. If he would have said, "I will not answer the questions, because they are not deserving of an answer." Or "It is none of your business!" Or anything other than a straight out lie, no crime has been committed. His lie was the real issue!

Well, Bill did lie, true enough. But I feel compelled to argue that no crime was committed. Last time I checked, adultery was a moral, not a legal, crime. And that one little lie does not justify that kind of spending. It was no one's business what happened between Bill & Monica--except theirs and Hillary's. Lie or not, $40 million to investigate a BJ, sorry, not justified.

No, I do not think the media "demonizes" American icons, the individuals do that themselves, in their behaviors.
