you know the one i mean, most likely from an aunt or a grandparent. this year i got a metal tin as a present from my great nan..i thought whats this? and could only hope it would either be alcoholic or something for my greatest passino, motorcycles. but alas i was wrong on both counts. i opened the tin to be presented with a pair of socks..black and with sexy written on one and devil written on the other, they were around a size 4-6, and i am a size 11UK what possible use could i have for these... 2 days after i recieved them i chucked the socks in the bin and i now use the tin to keep odd change around. so what did everyone else get that they have no possible use for? cheers, khris

My mom was the queen of crazy gifts this year as was my mother in-law. My inlaw wrapped this box full of knic knacs which I'm speculating it was either stuff she no longer wanted or things from Goodwill. My mom bought me a minature porcelin t-set with strawberries on it because I have strwberries in my kitchen but it's clearly a toy set with the Dollar General Big Yellow $5.00 price sticker intact. Then I opened a barbie Doll she bought again for 5 bucks. Then a snow globe that when I got home noticed what was inside it was a little Catholic girl in her communion gown. I think she thought it was an angel or something because it plays Jesus Loves me. But for the record I attend a Mission Baptist Church.

good for me i dont yet have in-laws. they must buy overall some of the worst gifts...mainly because they dont know you well enough to get you something you would like/need/apreciate. again i know its not the gift but the thought...but when its clear all they have done is chuck the gift in with their shopping when they went to get groceries makes you think, why! why did you bother! thanks for posting, khris

How much time do you spend with your nan for her to get to know you. at your age of 17 it dosen't seem important to spend time with old people But if you would take the time to you might find avery fun and interesting person. let her get to know you. Oh What did you send her??

it might shock you but i actually spend alot of time with my nan, i worked as the kitchen assistant to make some extra money in the summer, i was the kitchen assistant at dove court, the local care and residential home where my nan stays and i spent a small amount of time with her daily. i got her a family tree including pictures as i knew this is what she wanted because that is what she said she wished she had in her roomm, pictures of the family, so i took this idea and made a family tree by travelling around my family, taking a picture then organising and putting them on the computer.

hammer pants - hammer pants
My grandma gave me this thing a few years back... I say thing because I still dont know what the heck that thing was! LOL.. It was a glittery red rope thing with little ball things in it.. It really looked like something to do with a christmas ornament of some sort but I am not sure.. so I just stuck it to my wall so she wouldnt think I was ungreatful..lol ahh, and then there was the time I asked for her to make me those old "hammer pants" that MC Hammer wore.. why did I do that??? she made me some red with black polka dot pants with little slits up the middle of the legs..not anywhere near hammer lol...

hmm now you mention wearing the gifts you are bought it reminded me of another gift my girlfriend got me this year, it was a giant pair of wide fronts with merry christmas and a happy new year, me im quite light hearted and found this amusing, but the idea of wearing them infront of her...well i would love to! but the problem is i would have to put on a good 200lbs before they would stay around my waist!

I got more candles even though I still have candles wrapped up in a box which were given to me five years ago lol. Apparently candles are a popular gift to give at Christmas, or is it just me?? I'm not really complaining though, I'm just saying that I could open up a candle store with the candles that I already have hehe.

I think the idea of giving candles is if you don't know what to give give a candle every one is supposed to like candles.

toy lizards - I love these toy lizards but what to do with them. They are a gift.
Because of financial circumstances this year our Christmas was very tight as far as gift go. My 20 year old granddaughter gave me a tin full of dollar store toy lizards I love it. I like lizards and think they are so cute. She is aware of this and it means she dared enough to get something of my interest. I have no use for them but love them any way.. Sorry your aunt Nan gift was so insulting. You were remembered I hope you thanked her any way. It is so hard to know what to get people when one is one a limited budget

My husband is the worse in the world at choosing gifts. When we went into town on Christmas eve, as usual, I forgot to wear a neckscarf and I am always complaining of my neck being cold. Well, I did my usual complaining so he bought me a brown neckscarf. Mind you, I had just nipped into a shop and had bought a nice pink one and I really dislike the colour brown. However, I just thanked him and told him that I would have like a breadmaker. Well, I got the breadmaker, but I will have to wear the neckscarf jut to let him think that I like it. However, I will only wear it when I am going out for walks in the evening while it is dark.

my friend gave me--and everybody else in our office--a marble egg with my name engraved on it. so i don't know what it's for. it might have been a paperweight but if you put it on top of your papers it would just roll off the table and you'd have to spend an awful lot of time crawling under desks just to find it. so now it sits on top od a cello-tape so it won't roll off.

i got a kitkat bar. and i dont like chocolate so i let my boyfriend eat it. maybe the metal tin was a spitoon. (sorry if i spelled it wrong). the socks are definitely not for you. i dont know what she was thinking getting socks like that for a guy. and since they were not even your size did she mix it up with your real present.

I got presents other people decided I needed for my new house. Nothing on my list. Things I would have bought for myself. Rah. Hip. Of course, it beats the presents I got on my birthday. :)

There was a great point brought up here about the thought that goes into a gift - it means so much more than the amount spent or whether the item is a good fit or not. My oldest daughter (8) spent her last dollar on a gift for an angel tree instead of buying the pack of gum she wanted on display next to the tree. Although I try to teach my kids morals and values, she did this all on her own and I think that makes all the difference. It's not about the obligatory present - it's about love, respect, and appreciation.

Although I love and enjoy getting any type of gift at Christmas. I did receive a few that puzzled me. My aunt gave me a kit to wash and dry my car??? I haven't cleaned my car in months, so maybe it was a hint?? I also got a lil statue of a mouse. Nothing really cute just a small kinda creepy looking mouse. Who knows??

I have a rip curl wallet that i've owned for 4 years and apart from the paint scratching off the emblem there is not one blemish or tear on it. For some reason my parents thought another wallet would be the perfect gift. What for???? The one i have is brilliant and by the looks of it will be brilliant for many years to come. I never thought i'd say that about a wallet but i just have absolutely NO use for two wallets!!!

Why should it matter if the person gives the gift from their heart. Do you believe every gift you've ever given had it's use to the person you gave it to. It's the thought that counts. Happy New Year!

it might jsut be me...but yes i do actualy think that...i spend alot fo time buying gifts, i only buy for imediate family and maybe one or two friends so i do have the time to spend a good few trips into town or wanders on the internet looking for ideas so that i know it will go down well. i would hate to give a present and for them to open it and have a forced smile of appreciation on their face when they thank me for it. i would rather see at least a mild apreciation because they know they can use it. failing that i just buy something entirely comedic so that at least everyone will have a good laugh at my expence.

I have never got a present like that... you need to understand that a present is given for the joy of giving and a lot of thought is put into it before it is given!!!!

a clock does have its use's though. but i can understand sometimes. i was brought one a while back, it did nothign apart from display the time, no alarm, no date, and had magnet feet. i have few metal things in my room to stick this to and i already have an alarm clock/radio.... i forget what happened to it now, but it ended up in the bin somewhere along that year...
