The Twilight Zone

Since Sci-Fi is running an original Twilight Zone marathon, I thought I'd ask what everyone's favorite episode is. Mine's the classic one with the man who loves to read. Ultimate irony there, in the end. I think that really sums up what the show is all about. hat dark, bitter irony that things never turn out how we want or expect. Yeah, I'm trying to balance my serious discussions with some light ones.

Oh, so many great episodes! "To serve man" is one of the classics. The aliens land on earth and proclaim that they come in peace. They offer a book, written in their language, to the officials of earth who begin trying to decipher it. The aliens say that they would like to bring humans to their world where they will be happy, etc. The title of the book gets deciphered and it is announced that it says "To serve man". So, with that, people are lined up, getting into the space ship to travel across the universe. I'm betting that you've seen this episode, but just in case you haven't, I'm not going to spoil the ending! I've got a great book called "The Twilight Zone Companion" which details every single episode and gives alot of history on the show. Your favorite episode is called "Time enough at last."

I don't watch the show enough to really understand it, but my husband is a big sci-fi fan. Since there was another marathon on when we were actually together in the same location, we watched some of it together. It wasn't bad. I remmber an episode that had something to do with a guy in the military in a plane who thought he was stranded somewhere, and somehow, it all urned out to be a dream, or something like that.

I thought that episode with the people who had pig faces but said the pretty people were ugly was pretty good. I haven't seen all of the episodes though! Sometimes I'll watch them though.

Oh yes, I love that one...I have seen it over and over and I just love it every time. I love the Twilight Zone I have been watching it since I was very young. It's so funny how it makes you think about things after watching it.

No one's favorite was the Christmas episode where the bum was fired from his department store Santa Claus job, and he ended up with a bag that gave everyone what they asked for?

I have to agree with the one you mentioned. That to me would be the worst. To love to read and then have that happen! I love the twilight zone, and that would be the best episode.

I love that show. I used to watch it weekly. My favorite was the train that went around and around and didn't get anywhere. Then a baby was crying. And you find out the train was the baby aleins toy from earth with a human in the train. Do you remember that one? It was so cool.

That's one of the better ones (starring Burgess Meredith). I like the one also starring Agnes Morehead (young, you might remember her from "Bewitched") where she plays this spinsterish-type character who lives alone in a cabin in the middle of nowhere and aliens land on the roof of her cabin. Turns out, they are only about three or four inches tall and they are terrified of her! That was funny!

Is it bad to say I've never actually watched the Twilight Zone? I know the show has a huge cult following and I understand the premise of the show, I just have never watched an episode!!! I have no idea what I was doing with my time when it was on as I love mystery, sci-fi, fantasy and anything with a twist. A little off topic... I was a huge fan of Lost when it first started out but it just frustrates me now as they never give out any answers to what is going on. Is this something you have watched also? Just curious!

My favorite is called "Walking Distance" about a harried businessman whose car breaks down within walking distance of the town he grew up in. While his car is being worked on, he walks into town and gradually notices how nothing has changed there since he was a boy. What he doesn't realize at first is that he's gone back in time to when he was a boy. It's a great story about how you really can't go home again but you still can learn lessons from your childhood. It has quite an emotional punch to it, I think. I also relate to it because I miss my childhood. I'd give up all my tomorrows if I could just relive a day, any day, from my childhood.

My Favorite? It will always be the episode in the airplane, where this paranoid guy started seeing a creature on one of the plane wings ripping out the wings. I think it was "Terror at 20000 feet" or something. It was just so creepy I had to go to the kitchen everytime time he looks at the window.

I love the old Twilight Zone shows. I have several favorites, but my all time favorite one is the one where the dying man makes his greedy family members wear masks. I think it still rings true today that just because someone seems a certain way on the outside doesn't mean that's who they are on the inside.

Great topic. Rod Serling was ahead of his time, I think. My favorite show was when the 2 astronauts were working or their spaceship and discover the small people. At the end, the giants discover the astronauts. I guess size is relative. But, there were several other episodes I loved to watch over and over. And the wild part was that there were dozens of actors featured , virtually unknown at the time, who would later become stars or very well known. And all the episodes are in black and white. But the stories always steal the show.
