What do you feel is the significance of the charector Dr. Watson? Can holmes solve the cases without his help? I recall his role in the book called "Hound of Baskervillies".

I think Watson represents the reader. He's a basically intelligent man (he is a doctor after all) but nowhere near Holmes' brilliance. I'm sure Holmes could solve cases without him much of the time, but it always helps to have someone to bounce ideas off of. Plus, Watson provides Holmes with friendship and humanizes him.

dr.watson is a doctor by profession, but also an intelligent person, though holmes seemed as if he is dependent on watson, but he never was like that, taking hound of baskervilles story, though holmes sent watson to the baskerville, holmes also went there and lived on hill.Holmes though took ideas of watson he is independent in taking decisions.finally watson is a good friend to holmes

Watson did help holmes investigating certain things when holmes was absent from the spots. His reports were very useful for holmes in further investigations.
