Any scope of improvements?

I beleive that there not much scope of improvement for gmail. It is faster,has more capacity and is user friendly. What more can one ask. Besides,It is because of gmail that many other mail providers increased their size to 1GB.

Yes gmail is faster and has more capacity it is also user friendly.
But there is one problem with Gmail. It doesn't support IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol). Its an application layer protocol that allows a local client to access email over remote server. The gmail supoorts POP3 but not IMAP. Sometimes people don't know and they try access their mail with the client which is using IMAPm, then they get problems while checking their mails.

Yes. Other providers gave about 100MB for free account before gmail.
