Do You Think Left-Handed People Look Awkward?

I have heard so many people say left-handed people look retarded or awkward or spastic. Now I am left-handed so I have heard it all. I am told I am slow, but right handers need to understand the world is made for you so us left handers have to process how to manipulate everything to work for us. The fact we do it within seconds is phenomenal! So yes we are slower than right handed people but we are always doing everything backwards and making it come out correctly. So give us credit, we may look awkward, slow, spastic or even retarded. But you must admit we are very clever and smart to be able to do everything backwards and make it work in the end.

no, left-handed people are just the same as right-handed people... my boyfriend is left-handed and he's just as normal as everyone else... i have also other left-handed friends and one thing i noticed is that most of them have bad handwritings, they're still readable though...

Hopefully that is just male left handers. But maybe not. I can print faster and more legible than cursive writing. So it may be true after all. LOL

I don't any left handed people look any different then those who are right handed. Now you have me wondering what a person who is ambidextrous like myself look like or how we are portrayed by the general public. This I found on this website: http://www.linkshaender-beratung.de/english/Ambidextrous.htm "Ambidexterity is therefore neither a goal to aspire to nor is it a gift from God. Instead, it is first and foremost the mark of brain damage."

HAHAHA! Ok that is funny. I have always been in awe of an ambidexter person. I can not write with both hands, but I do a lot of things right handed like all sports, only because I was taught as a child from my brothers who are right handed. So now I wonder if I am considered ambidextrious or just brain damage LOL

I'm left handed. I only have trouble with scissors. Left handed people are creative, artist and entertainig! It usedto be seen as a sign of evil but I know it's a sign of being able to see into thhe magical world. My dad had his hand tied to his chair to make him write with the corect hand, how awful is that? It's good to play tennis left handed, my cross-court backhand as a teenager was an instant point winner. Don't worry about common righties, us rarer lefties are specially gifted!

No. So you write with your left hand. Big deal. I don't understand why it would look so strange. People have nothing else better to talk about. Don't worry about them.

Yes my two older brothers always teased me too.

This is honestly the first time I have ever heard of anyone being teased for the hand they write with. I'm surrounded by left handed people and I don't think that the hand someone writes with effects much of their life unless they let it. You definitely can't tell that someone is left handed just by looking at them and most left-handed people I know can do things like use tin-openers better than I can :)

my husband only writes with his left hand, everything else he does right handed. Oddly enough though he can't write with his right hand. His mom can write beautifully with both left and right. Strange family I married into huh?

LOL. No stranger than everyone elses I am sure. My ex-husband is left handed, his father and one of his brothers. I am left-handed and the only one for 10 generations on both sides of my family. however, my son is right-handed. To me that is very strange with all the left-handed people in our family and my son being right-handed. I guess it is not heriditary.

My grandson, my mother and my father are all left handed. So I am sued to seeing it and it does not look awkward to me at all. I think some poeple think it is awkward because it is different than what they are used to seeing, but I think left handed people in general are very smart...it is just they think differently because the othe side of the brain is dominant.

My 7 year old daughter is left handed, I do find teaching her how to use scissors and things like that are awkward for me because I am right handed, I sometimes think that the way she holds her pen is awkward, but I would never say someone who is left handed is a "spastic" or retarded.

my husband is left handed, i think lefthanders are more creative ppl and they seem to be able to use their right hand very well, while righthanded ppl cant use thier left hands so well.

its not only left handed people that look awkward these days it is also the way the young ones hold a pen these days, they seemed to wrap there whole hand around a pen like as if they think someone is going to steal the pen from them....has anyone noticed this....

My brother in law is left handed and we always give him a hard time - in love of course! He's always trying to not bump the person sitting next to him at the table and it's funny to watch him be so concious about it.

It does look a little awkward for instance when a left-handed person is writing something down. To us righties, it is different to see someone using the other hand as their dominant hand. I recently broke the middle finger on my right hand and writing with the left hand was totally out of the question, it just wouldn't work. I had to do my best with my right hand and it was a real challenge.

You have my understanding but not my sympathy. I am naturally right handed but had a BAD fall that did serious damage to my right shoulder and arm last month. I had to use a completely untrained left hand to do everything for a couple of weeks and I am still limited as to what I can accomplish with my right hand. If you think people look at you strange, you ought to see them look at me shifting things back and forth just to get money out of my wallet and then actually reach out and hand it to them or accept change back. Since I am no longer wearing a sling there is no OBVIOUS physical problem for them to see. So while I understand your problem, I am not sympathetic, you have had your entire life to learn how to function in a right handed world.

was Bill Clinton retarted? he did become presidens of America didn't he? It's all about the size of the right part of the brain..if its bigger u're left handed and so on :P I had to endure a lot of beatings from my preschool teacher just because they wanted everyone to look the same...They still joke sometimes when they see me writing with my left hand.. i guess its just the way people respond to diversity.
