I have been diagnosed with having a large hernia in my stomach. I have been referred to a surgeon and I am currently waiting to see if I am going to quailfy for medicaid. Anyway I was wondering if anyone has had an operation on a hernia before and if so tell me about it. How long were you in the hospital and how was the recovery time? Did you have a hard time doing things when you returned home? I have a daughter that just turned 1 and I was curious as to how I am going to be able to take care of her after the surgery.

Well my mother is 65 and had one done on her stomach last year. She was in the hospital over night and came home. I reckon she was a bit sore for a week and needed things handed to her off the floor or just out of reach. But she really didn't complain that much. With a small child you may need someone to help you with her. At one they tend to need to be held and picked up a bit, and I don't think that would be good for you.
I do wish the best and a fast recovery. Once you get that out of the way you will have to update us all on how you are doing.
