Train Fare Increases in the UK

This month sees an INCREASE in the already astronomical train fares in the UK. I commute, every day, into London and then onto the Underground to the offices where i work. A price hike on an already expenses ticket is something i am not relishing at all.
My ticket also doesn't guarantee me a seat unless i leave insanely early in the morning and even then i often have to stand. So 35 mins standing followed by more standing in the underground and the same on return. Granted the trains are actually quite nice now but still - its annoying to spend the equivalent to a weekly food/grocery shop on just getting from A to B in relative discomfort. Now i am expected to pay more for this!
Do any of you commute? Do you think its expensive for what you get?

Even I agree with you I too find the hike in fares too dear to my pocket and the best part is after a hard days work you do not get to rest your weary legs then it drains you out. I feel that there should be some provision or reserved seats for at least those who hold a pass.

I live in a small town in the USA we do not even have the privelage of public transit. I had often thought it would be nice to have if you did not have a car or if your car was in the shop. But now I always hear about how expensive it is I am not so sure I would like to have it here in my town. If the prices increase then you should be guaranteed a seat to say the least!
