Although still a controversial subject, there is a growing consensus that global climate changes are being caused by environmental pollution, especially by greenhouse gases. Do we need to take more urgent action to halt this trend?

There was a similar Question on Yahoo Answers somoe months ago - QUOTE"How e could help stop Global Warming" UNQUOTE followed by another one QUOTE "Are Humans Responsible for a blobal climatic hange or is it a part of the earth's 4.5 billion year cycl?" UNQUOTE
I had blogged on this and am cutting and pasting the blog here below. The content is entirley mine, from another blog:

One of the featured Q’s on how we could help stop Global Warming, followed by another one Are Humans responsible for global climate change or is it part of Earth's 4.5 billion year old cycle? had me thinking – Even if humans are not responsible for the climatic changes in a major way, how can we really do our bit to reduce even that minor, shall we say responsibility?
The answers seem quite easy, but difficult to do because we are used to a particular lifestyle, most of us, and not all of us may have the same agenda:
Here are some suggestions, and I’d appreciate comments/additional suggestion/picking holes in my suggestions:
Conserve Energy.
1) Just keep the neighborhood clean, segregerate waste as soon as you start to dispose it, and ensure that it goes to the right place.
(2) Save water, the leaking tap, or the tap you’ve forgotten to put off-a lot of energy is spent in reaching the water to the tap, right from getting it from the source through pipes which required energy to make, to build the pipeline, to purification to pumping it to your overhead tank.
(3) Go in for rainwater harvesting in places where rain is abundant for a large part of the year. This water could be used for gardening, washing, etc.
(4) Minimize the use of plastics. Plastics are sourced from Oil, and processing require a lot of energy, besides being a disaster for ecology, that doesn’t mean that you use paper, even recycled paper-wood too will become scarcer and cutting of trees could add to the very thing we are trying to avoid. (I know that paper is sourced even from rags, but conversion of rags to paper again requires energy)
(5) Put off your vehicle engine, in case you expect your halt to be more than a minute, that means even at long traffic lights. Accelerate and bring the car to a stop gradually, without suddenness. The gas that you save has required a lot of energy to be converted from the oil to petrol or diesel.
(6) Put off all unwanted lights, appliances/systems hence save electricity. Even where you have to have your computer systems on 24 X 7, you could put off all unattended monitors, displays, sound systems, with only the CPU and the modem on.
(7) Stop completely the use of aerosols and CFC’s in your air conditioners, appliances.
Generate energy, if you can afford it – I am talking about Solar power-for water heating/ air conditioning your home, for lighting.
Spread the message at least among your neighbors and co-workers, urging them to save the planet, with the above and your own suggestions.
Most of these things are very much doable by everyone."

I received a few comments, one of which read QUOTE "God did not create the earth to last forever. The new earth in our afterlife will last forever."
My remarks on the blog and the answers that I had submitted as reproduced above still hold good according to me. Maybe we can debate on this?

i think our governments should start funneling funds toward the development of cleaner alternative fuels for a start. more laws should be aimed at protecting the environment rather than business interests. i think international cooperation is also a must on this issue cause after all this problem will not be isolated on a particular region but this could greatly affect the whole planet

I think it is really important that this subject gets more attention. We as a humanity need to take care of this earth. For we live on it and we live of it's lands. Plus we can not only think of ourselves but also think about possible next generations. I feel that it is our duty to treat the eart right and fair. For our own sake too. But I do not think everybody is willing to fix this problem. And treat it as a big issue.

We haven't even started to coming close in tackling this problem. When we do it will be at near crisis time.
