I don't think I can do this......... :(

I'm only on this stupid diet for the last......four hours.....and it's killing me. The house is full of sweets, crisps, christmas cake, mince pies and I'm nearly drooling at the mouth looking at them. I had an egg and toast for breakfast this morning. Then my husband came home from work and ate a big toasted cheese sandwich at the table while I tried to do the ironing and ignore the delicious smell of melting cheese wafting around the kitchen. How am I going to lose a stone if I feel like this already? :( I weighed in this morning at 11 stone 5. That's a lot because I'm not that tall. I'd love to be down to 10 stone by April. That's four months of not eating junk food and yummy chocolate. Any tips?

Are you exercising? Exercising is more important than not eating. Drink lots of water and eat lots of healthy foods so you feel full. Have a treat now and then. The more you deprive yourself, the more likely you are to fail. Give yourself a break and get your body moving.

I have joined the local gym and am going to start aqua erobics. It's just a matter of getting started. Once I go the first time it should get easier.....shouldn't it?

You must control yourself. The beggining is hard, but you must realise that you so that for your healthy.I haven't ate junk food since 2005 and i don't feel. the need.Try to focus about other things that you like to do. That way, maybe you could respect the diet. And you shouldn't forget about phisical exercises.

The beginning is hard - you can say that again. :/ But I'm trying..... I'm also really hungry because I've been so used to eating huge quantities of food for so long.

Go drink a great big glass of milk. That should hold off the hungries for a while. I know it isn't as good as sweets & food, but it works--especially if you drink a bit of white grapefruit juice beforehand (the juice helps your stomach to shrink up a bit so you will get full on less food/milk).

That's the second recommendation that I've had for the grapefruit juice. I will be keeping lots of it in the fridge. Thank you! :)

I am going to hang a pair of jeans out of the wardrobe tonight and I'm going to set a date to try to fit back into them. They're a brand new pair that I only wore once and I really loved them. I feel tons better after reading all the replies here. :)

I hope I can do it too. It's getting to crisis stage with the wardrobe situation. Nothing fits any more. LOL! Thanks Gabs

cravings for sweets - we can control or desires if we allow ourselves some wiggle room, just if we mess up we need to start again. we are worth it!!
If you tell yourself that you can't have it then you will want it more. My daughter toasted a cheese sandwich for herself so I ask for 1 bite. I got it and enjoyed it and then got busy. I too am changing my diet at least til spring when I finally get back into the garden and so will not have the idle time to fill my face. I have chosen to reduce my bread intake and greatly reduce my pop and so we shall see how far I get. Just tell yourself that you are worth tending to and try drinking some tea instead or munch on salads like I am planning to do between breakfast and dinner. We can go this!! I stand with you for your success!!

Good luck with your diet! I am trying to fill up with tea in between meals. I'm going to the shop in a while to get some fresh salads. Let me know how you're getting on. And thanks for the advice.

I'm also on a diet after the holiday season. I'm taking in juices and chocolate drinks but at least it's better than munching bread or snacks. Yes we can do this!!

I need to lose at least a stone myself! We should start a special discussion about weight loss or one of those interest groups so we could have a mini-support group. Ok, throw away all the junk food. Get a big water bottle. I have a 32 ounce one, which is 4 cups. If you fill it twice and drink it, you will be doing well. Get some of those crystal light single serving things. It gives the water a smidge of flavor and no calories. If you drink when you think you are hungry, you may not eat so much. Before the holidays, I was getting so close to my goal weight. At work there was always cookies and chocolate. I figured one wouldn't hurt. One of each every day did hurt! I gained 7 pounds! Now to get rid of it all, I will have to work my fanny off, literally. Good luck to you!

Ok, I just went and joined the weight loss interest group. You should join too and we can start a support discussion. About what works, and what doesn't.

Ok. I'm going to start carrying around a bottle of water with me. You're right. This worked the last time I was dieting. Is the weight loss discussion group the one that TeenAl has? I'm contributing to that one at the moment.

My advice would be to get all the junk food out of the house. It is not going to hurt your husband to start eating healthier too. If the temptation is gone it will be easier for you.

Maybe I should give a few late Christmas presents to people. For a minute I thought you were going to say it wouldn't hurt my husband to eat all the stuff so that I wouldn't have to look at it. LOL!

This is exactly what happens in my house---and my kids when they are hungry now turn to fruits such as apples/oranges/grapes etc as tasty treats. It really works! STOP buying junkfood and you (and the rest of your family) will grow up with healthier habits and plus, you'll lose tons of weight :)

Burn it, BittyBiddy! I'm 54 and a very good cook, I keep my weight under control by walking 15 miles a day and drinking huge amounts of water and grapefruit juice... I don't deny myself anything as far as food is concerned, I love and enjoy all of the goodies that you mentioned above and more... It's the element of motion combined with cooking my own food when I am hungry, that keep me fit... The addition, of motion to your regular diet, will take a little getting used to but the results are wonderful... I enjoy an increased metabolic rate, so I feel warm all the time, this makes me drink more water which is really the key to the best systems of losing weight. Grapefruit juice has elements that will help you lose weight, too... look it up on your favorite search engine. Increased activity when done steadily will certainly do it for you... "Move it, to lose it!" Blessed Be! :)

That's interesting about the grapefruit. I like grapefruit anyway so there's certainly no harm in putting that on my shopping list 15 miles a day is great going. When the summer comes in I'll start walking. For now it will be a trip to the gym in the evenings. :)

I started my diet today also. It's killing me and I feel like I can eat a cow I'm so hungry, BUT I'm going to try my best to stick with it because I need to loose some weight. I'm doing it for me and my happiness. Not for anyone else.

Mind over matter! Remember, dieting ain't easy. It will help though if your hubby supports you a lil and is considerate of what he eats in front of you. How bout getting him to join you in a healthy eating plan? My hubby is trying to lose weight so in doing that i have to keep him company. We now eat the same foods, altho i will admit that i do cheat now and again but at least then he doesn't feel alone in abstaining from all the niceties in the house. Try him out....if not, remember - if this is really what you want and your mind is made up to reach that goal in April, you will WILL yourself to do it. I'll eat with you from this side....

Hmmm i know the feeling i am on a diet as well. And with a household filled with big eaters and junk food eaters, it is hard to resist temptation...I have been on a diet for about a month, i have been doing good. I have tons of sweets, and chips, and junk food in my house. But an idea is say to yourself, your on the diet for a reason to lose weight, right?? So why give into temptation just because its there?!?! You need to incorporated a balanced food diet and exercise. Becuase without exercise, you will go no where! Also have you thought of a supplemental diet pill?

I have traveled to places all over the world, and regret that Ireland is not one of them, so I cannot fully appreciate the landscape. I don't even know what a stone is... unless we are talking about a rock. BUT, one thing I know is that if you want to lose weight and keep it off... you will have to change something about your routine. And the beauty is... you can still have cheese and chocolate... in moderation! Excercise! Excercise! Excercise! If you walk, run, hike, ride a bike, run in place, or do lunges (works very well), you don't have to starve yourself or give up certain foods. You will feel better and your changes will last much longer!

Man, isn't that the truth. Mylot is so addictive! I think that I spent most of the day typing here yesterday, which was my first day on Mylot - so I shouldn't complain of having little time either. lol.

First, this advice I'm about to give you was, in fact, told to me by a certified nurse. Now, the process is simple, if you don't mind counting calories. Say your target weight is 130 pounds, then you would want to eat about 1300 calories until you reach that weight and then keep eating exactly 1300 calories. So, you see, all you have to do is take your desired weight and add one zero to the end of it and that is exactly how to determine how many calories to eat every day. Now, let me mention the wonderful thing about this. You can eat whatever, and I mean whatever, you want-including sweets of all kinds. Now, that doesn't mean that you eat mostly sweets because you wont have enough calories left to eat any normal food like your body needs. I'd say to even out your food and sweets to where you can enjoy a hearty meal of any kind, without exceeding your limit so you can have a few sweets afterwards.Trust me it is 100% true just try it.Of course if you're not all into having to keep up with counting calories then the only other thing I could suggest would be The South Beach Diet. Just go to this site: www.southbeachdiet.com or go out and purchase the book. Good luck and believe me just give it a shot and see what works for you because you shouldn't have to hurt your body just because its been a rumor to pretty much starve yourself. Remember that you only have one body so treat it right. Good luck.

My advice would be everytime you see or smell the food that is not healthy for you, would be to go somewhere where you will not smell the food or see it. If you stay away from it, you may find it easier to avoid the temptation of digging in to your husbands foods. That is what I would do in this case or go for a walk outside.

I think i have to dissappoint you but you have to get over your temptation of this junk food, the best way to do is to compel your husband also to stay away from this junk food because as long as it is out of sight you need not worry about the temptation.

I don't think that I have ever survived a diet. I have just given up on dieting and have accepted who I am. I am not a lot over weight, but I am a little heavy. You have to have a lot of disciplin to survive diets and I just don't have it. GOOD LUCK!!!
