The Sugar Busters and South Beach diets both work very well for diabetes. You can usually find their books at the library, then buy whichever you like. Basically, you need a low glycemic diet - ie one where the foods are not converted quickly into sugar during digestion. That is the basis of both of these diets. The books help you with meal planning and shopping.
I wish you well.

My mother has lived with diabetes 40 years. Bread is a no no. anything that ends in ose is sugar! The vegetarian diet is a good start however I suggest you add protein like chicken regularly. Exercise is key, the more you move the less insulin you may need to take. Rice is also a no no. You will learn it is all about balancing nutrients. You did not stare which kind of diabetes is in question. try www.thediabetesvillage.com for information that you may seek!!! Take care and hope you manage it successfully.

Here is a web site that I visit often. They have some good recipes, even for cookies.
Just watch out for the high carb ones, they will cause your blood sugar to rise fast.
And it is best to use splenda when it calls for sweeteners.
