I used to make cakes all the time when I was younger. I was really into it for a while. My favorite was a "constuction site" cake for my best friends son's 5th birthday. I used two cake mixes and used a roaster pan. I made roads and used small toy construction site figures. I made roads and a pit where I had frosting coming out of a toy cement mixer. I loaded dump trucks with little candies. I found little men with stop and yield sighns. It really was cool. I wish I could find a picture of it to post. I also made my friend a heart shaped mothers day cake with real flowers on it ...it came out really nice. I was quite proud of myself. Have you ever made a great cake you were proud of?

Castle Cake - Castle Cake, Wedding Cake
I've never made anything impressive, but the most amazing cake I've eaten had to be my wedding cake. Picture below.

I used to decorate cakes all the time, for everyone's events etc. I loved doing it... but have not done so in years. I think the favorite ones were the basket weave cakes - I "wove" the sides, then on the top I made "grass" using a tip that had a bunch of teeny tiny holes, on the grass I would sprinkle some peanut m and ms (these resembled eggs in an easter basket) I would then insert a basket handle made of twisted reeds. I would put a large bow on either the center of the handle or on each side where the handle met the cake. probably the prettiest cake I made was a heart shaped anniversary cake (3 layers) frosted in white, with a white rose bouquet and ribbons off to one side with the ribbon sweeping across the cake....then just little white dots to resemble swiss polka dots or candle wicking. the white on white really had a romantic whispy look to it. I love the cake you show here - I have never worked with fondant but love the smoothness of it.

Oh I've seen the basket weave cakes...I love them but have never made one. I love to make heart shaped cakes and put real flowers on them...I only used fondant once and had my sister help...it's tricky to get smooth in the heart shape anyway...lol I usually do white frosting or pink with the white candle wicking dots in white.

I love making cakes. I make cakes for everyones birthday in my family. I have two favorites. On my little sister 1st birthday party I made a under the sea cake and it was so pretty I made it look like under the sea and used candied fishes and icing to make it look good and I also hung green streamer down from the ceiling like sea weed and drawed and cut out alot of fishes and crabs and sea horses. and made a huge fish pinata. It was the best party I did. The second one was my Taz cake for my niece whom we nicknamed "Taz" after the cartoon charactor. It turned out really good also . I have made tons of cakes but these two were my very favorites and everyone loved them also .

I love to create cakes. It has been one of my hobbies for years. Having been a single mom, I needed to make my kids cakes from scratch and design them on my own. Sometimes the simplest of designs can be the best.

I have several cakes that I'm proud of at: http://cakespace.blogspot.com/ Now I'm getting ready to make a square wedding cake for some friends! Should be fun, but I always get nervous when I have a big cake to make. So much can go wrong! lol Weddings are such important celebrations I want it to be picture perfect and taste amazing! Wish me luck.
