Are some people afraid to start discussions?

It is my understanding that you make more money for posting topics than responses. Though both make your earnings go up and your rating rise I find that there are a lot of people on here that feel like they have no new topics to add to the melee of discussions. I think that you should free your mind and make that money! Talk about anything that you find interesting or whatever is going on with you that day. I got almost 40 responses to a topic I posted about picking fresh broccoli florets out of my garden. I was amazed! So chat it up folks!

Don't be shy! Bring in the noise bring in the funk! In your own irresistable way. And darlin' your response shows some great grammar and a fantastic grasp of the english language. I wish some American teenagers spoke as well! Let your voice be heard and if you don't get a whole lot of nibbles on your topics don't get discouraged. I have posted many a non-sequiter myself (a topic that gets no response) but I have also posted topics that were near and dear to my heart or just weighing on my mind and had a deluge of responses. You'll never get a fire if you don't put out a spark or two!

I totally understand where you're coming from. So far I've posted a few topics of discussion and have gotten barely any replies. I really thought that at least one of my topics would take off and generate some talk, but they really haven't. It seems easier to just respond to topics that are already out there. Still, it would be a great feeling to post something and get like 40 replies or more! So I will probably keep posting topics when something comes to mind. ^_^

I'm certainly not afraid to start a discussion, but I find it rather strange on how they are replied too. The ones I thought were original and would generate the most responses, ended up with maybe only one or two replies. However, the one I started that probably used the least amount of brain power for me (it was a topic on coffee) ended up receiving the most responses. So go figure.

Same here sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to what will spark a bonfire. I posted about my dad and mom and asked others about their relationships with their own parents and I got so many responses I still haven't finished commenting on all 14 pages of dad's and 8 or 9 pages of mom's. I try hard to come with origional, funny, or well thought out discussions and I am reaping the rewards of that financially as well as from the input that I get back

It's just like when you are talking to a group of your friends you will occassionally throw a topic out there that no one bites on. It is no different in cyber space than in realtime. The key is to keep posting topics that you know something about, feel something about, or feel that someone needs to say something about and you'll be fine.

A lot of us either just don't want to start discussions or just don't want to put anything that sounds stupid out there for a topic. Sorry but members will do what they want. Some don't even do anything and let their referrals do it all.

right, it is a scary thought for you never know if you will get a response. I am new here and I tried to post topics, the first few topics got very little responses, some nothing at all. So I changed my approach to posting topics and to my surprise, the next postings passed the 100 level of responses, some 50. I find that very encouraging. I kept on responding to discussions and to date, I have 3 replies that got a pencil mark. Isn't that wonderful. So I would encourage everyone togo on posting discussions, you will soon get the feel of tne way most members in the mylot community think. Every posting is way of testing the waters, so to speak.

to get that kind of rating in two days is stupendous and is quite an accomplishment. Although I could just about swear you have been on my friend list for a little more than two days as I say to all of my friends "it is your story, and I'ma let you tell it! As it is your story so you tell it best!"

I don't think people are afraid to make discussions but that we are having a difficult time thinking of new things to talk about. It seems like every subject and topic possible has already been used and we do not want to repeat something and have it deleted by mylot. Maybe everyone is brainstorming trying to come up with new and creative topics or maybe people are still busy from the holidays. I am sure the topics will pick up again.

I don't know if people are afraid as much as hesitant because I know that many people have posted that they get very few responses. My posts hardly get any no matter what the topic it seems, but I noticed that sometimes it takes a few days to get responses. I like the broccoli post :)

it discourages any new user who dont get much responses... so they will obviously feel that rather than wastin my time on starting a discussion for just a couple of responses, better respond to a discussion. isnt it true?

I am one that is guilty of not posting, as once I scroll through to see the daily topics, I always notice that someone has already posted something about the same as what I was going to. You are right though I should just post away. I will try.

I am new and still finding my way around this site. I am sure that many topics have been rehashed over and over. But I eventually will try to start some discussions in the near future. While I believe we all have the ability to be creative, there are some who have a real knack for it.

yes for those only who dont know what should be the topic for the discussion. In my view what you have posted is a topic for discussion.

I agree, those who don't start them should really start to take advantage of what mylot has to offer.

I want to here rants, opinions, and topics that make me think. If this is an online community I would like to see every body putting in their topical 2 cent contribution. I have almost 100 people on my friend list and I try to go each ones page at least once and post to their discussions too every week. But I am shocked to see that some have not started a discussion in a month or two though they have a rank of over 500 or 1000 even!

My answer would have to be yes, because I am one of those afraid to start discussions! A lot of people have already posted the general reason why, so I'm not going to go into great lengths, just to repeat what they have said.
The thing is, I am afraid of, first of all, looking "stupid." But mostly, with MyLot, I'm afraid of posting a duplicate thread. There are SO many topics already there, it's impossible to go through all of them, and sometimes the search doesn't really help. So I don't really know if something has already been posted. Chances are, anything I would want to talk about HAS been brought up already, even if I can't readily find it.
Anyways. I decided I am going to post at least one topic, and that's the reason I replied to this. I've always been afraid to start my own threads, and I have probably only done so once in my entire life. I need to get over that. I'll try to "chat it up" a bit more, and hopefully that will make posting in any forum more fun!

I guess, I'm one of the users who are afraid of posting new quality discussions coz' of the very little response that it gets. As for now I'm still happy in responding to discussions as in that way you make new friends.
It is a little bit odd though that quality discussions don't get that much of attention while one liner questions with few descriptions get a handful of response.

Some days I find there are so many interesting topics to reply to I don't have time to think of a good topic of my own ..
Sometimes I come to the computer with several ideas already churning around in my head ready for posting ..
But I do find it's difficult to post a great topic that will make folks want to reply ... I'm not very good at it yet ... and yes it sometimes seems that the 'dafter' the topic the more you get replies ... very strange hehehe

No peoples are not afraid to reply to the discussions but when they know about the procedure of the my lot then they know that its too much big program and they got bored to reply to the topics. And according to me if mylot not give some money then its ok . its interesting discussion site and i have a lot fun there.
