Yeah, you have to get out of the chair, and do some exercises, regularly, to allow your posture to adjust. Think of it as "arthritis by other means".
Most of the computer ailments are too real, but avoidable:
RSI, too much keyboard, not enough stretching exercises.
Headaches; bad posture, too much time on the screen without a break, glare from screen. Adjust your color scheme for neutral colors. If you're using Windows, find the Marine color scheme on the Control Panel Display, with soft green text background will work. I'm a writer, I can do 5000 words a day easily, and I can't stand dazzling screens.
My emails come out green, but at least I know I'm not blinding anyone at the other end, either.
If you do a lot of time on the computer, headaches and dizziness mean "lay off". If severe, you may need professional help, but common sense and a strange desire to be in less pain will probably do the trick.

I would have to say yes, they will tell you that it is not good to sit on front of computer for long periods of time. I am sure that this is where all of my aches come from also. Have not found a substitution though. My computer is the first thing I think about in the morning. Guess this is addiction.

I think it' similar to the tv where people spend too much time in front of it. Of course I am on my laptop watching a football game. I spend 12-14 hours on the computer but I also work from home so I feel it is justified becuase that is how I earn a living. You just need to make sure your surroundings are ergononmically correct.

well u sat only 3 hr and u ended up there i sat for an average of 4 hrs whn i had thinngs to do and 12 whn i was jobless whr did i end up nowhr.....there is nothing computer has become a part and soul of ourself one cannot live without it i practically cant...the very thought scares me...but the best substitution to this is to find a group of frnds who like to go for long walks and enjoy rather than complain....

Yes computer makes people unhealthy as people lose contact with their loved ones at home, they forget the world existing near them, they get addicted so much to it, they make chat with people eonlin have friends online but they got bored even to mingle with family members, it makes people less social, the eyes also get a lot of strain, the computer is good in many ways but excessive use causes mental and physical strain.

Yes, of course it is making people unhealthy for the following reasons. The first and foremost would be that it is making people lazy, like people these days prefer to do online shopping just sitting on their homes and get it to their home rather than going out and do some walk, etc, hence the exercise part it is missing. The other way is that using computer itself is unhealthy for us. If you use keyboards repetitively you will end up with carpal tunnel syndrome. Since you end up gazing at the computer screen for long time, your eyes would get lots of trouble later. If you sit on the computer long time without any other activity you will end up being obese and hence with that you will have other dangerous diseases like hypertension, heart attack, stroke, etc. Hence we need to limit our computer usage to a permissible level.

Well I look at this way. We need computers and it is certainly a way of life BUT we need exercise too. I find the kids of today are so different from when I grew up. We were outside all the time. I was told I could stay out till the street lights came on. We never ran out of things to do. Now a days I find even with my own children they don't have the imagination that we had. They get bored and don't know what to do with themselves. This is because of computers and video games in my opinion.

I've been using computers since the 80's and I agree I have been suffering with more tension headaches, eye strain and neck/shoulder pain. I've had my eyes checked and I do have great vision, it's sitting in front of a monitor to many hours a day.

Three hours a day doesn't seem like that much time to me. I spend more time than that and many are on a lot longer than me. Could those symptoms be something else?
PS When I was your age, we were told we spent way too much time on TV but we survived intact. Did you ever wonder what will be next???

Yes computer does harm mentally and physically too!!
Even i work more than 8 hours a day in front of computer and even i m facing these all problems as ur and i suffer from head ache every now and after so i preffer v all to b aware of this.........
As per me their is no substitution sure the prevention is possible..
U can see the Golden eye technology in some of the tv's and monitors of the computer which make us feel not so bad from the previous or old screens they ll come out with that solution..
And one more thing keep ur brightness and contrast to least as possible in ur system so that it ll not affect as much...

It depends, if you abuse yourself while using it. Even if you gt addict on using it, you should and must have to eat regularly (yeah even if it means puting your meal on the side of your computer).. And sleep atleast once a day to have your body stretched after a long day of siting in front of the pc.

Is computer making people unhealthy? Affraid so. We do become addicted. I am still considering it is the blast of radiation or something. Notice how you feel when the power goes out?I also see kids who use their computers alot and are usually obese. Overweight and unmotivated.
There is a problem with starring at the monitor ongoing daily for years, for sure.
We can employ a screen to put over our monitors screen that does cut down some of the glare. Hopefully will help with the headaches also.
Back pain is usually from bad posture while sitting at the computer. Your monitor should be level with your eyes as you sit in front of the pc and have a comfortable chair. Pain in the back associated with sitting at the computer too much can easily be a contributor to the headaches also.
Get up and out. Get off the pc for a week. Then allow yourself only an hour or so in the morning with your coffee (if you drink coffee) or anytime but limit yourself to a time frame. Use a timer and self discipline.
A substituion could be a handheld or a cell phone with internet access, but contraversy there also regarding radiation and brain tumors so the only prevention is avoid it. Find another "hobby".

well addiction of anything is harmfull...well i think avg of 3 hours is not a big deal. most probable reason behind this you are physically weak.
in the IT industry you have to use computer for atleast 6-7 hours..at that time regular physical excerise is very important..join the gym and keep regularity in excerise..
yes i suffer from headache specially eye-strain..for this i wash my eyes by cold water after 2-3 hours.this is the important thing which removes out the eye strain and make you cool!!

I don't think computer will make one unhealthy.Al precautions like proper back rest, protection glasses and relaxing noe and then will not create problem. If we have to sight health hazards due to computer any profession has its merits and demerits. We have to look into details of our illness and rectify rather than to worry.Every health problem has a solution.I hope that you get your problem rectified.Happy computing and good health.

The last investigations conducted under the aegis of American optometrical association (which consists of 32 thousand ophthalmologists and opticians) pay attention to the obvious fact again: working at the computer is not natural for human eyesight. 70-75% of all users which routinely work at the monitor screen have problems with the eyesight. A lot of complaints come from the computer operators about sharp pain in the eyes, blearing, the common eyesight worsening.
When reading a text from the paper the human eye takes the reflected image with the falling light. Looking through the text on the screen man looks at the same source of light.
We have to read, to type, to compare something more than once, when we are working at the monitor. But in result eyes have to re-form thousand times a day. It has a negative influence on the eyesight.
People, which earn with the work on a computer, have the greatest part of health complaints on muscles and joints diseases. Mostly this is simply neck torpor, soulders and loins pain or legs pricking. But there can be more serious diseases. The most prevailing is carpal tunnel syndrome. In this case arm nerves are damaged with the frequent and long work at the computer. The most hard form of this syndrome is pains that deprive human efficiency.
