Some people say that there isn't a difference between the two. But i think you will find there is.
A Acroynm is usually formed taking the first initial or a phrase/word and then those letters are used to form the acroynm which stands for the full word. For example: World Wide Webs Acroyn is WWW or North Atlantic treaty organisation is NATO.
Where as an abbreviation is just a shorted version of a word. Used commonly with titles (Mr/Mrs/Miss) and also commonly with frequently used latin phrases such as etc.
