Ordering Shoes from a Catalogue or Online.

Choosing a pair of shoes is frustrating to me. Often times they styles that are available are uncomfortable. You can't always go by the size of your current footwear when you are trying on shoes. Different styles tend to fit differently. Did you know that your toe should be at least a half a thumb's length from the tip of the shoe? Also, you should try on new footwear in the late afternoon or early evening. Your feet swell during the day and if you try on a pair of shoes in the morning, they will be too tight by afternoon.
The only time I will buy a pair of shoes is if I try them on first and walk back and forth while wearing them. I have ordered shoes from catalogues and from the internet only to send them back because they didn't fit properly or they were just not comfortable enough. This costs extra time and money. I would rather look for one pair of shoes for hours and be happy with the fit at local stores than to order one pair from a catalogue or internet store and have to send them back.

I always order my shoes online ... and they always fit me perfectly ... and my feet aren't exactly the perfect size ...
How do I do it .. I order FLYFLOT .. they are simply the most comfortable show I have ever worn .. they fit like a glove as the soles are self moulding to your foots shape .. the soles are made of millions of air bubbles so it's like walking on air ..
In fact I have a pair of Flyflot on right now :o)

I only have the UK web address www.flyflot.co.uk but I am sure that if you use your countries search engines and put FLYFLOT in it will come up with a source for the shoes ..
They may not be to everyones style or taste .. but they truly are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn .. the inner sole is designed to ergonomically take the shape of your foot and mould itself to fit perfectly, they have 'shock absorbing' soles and for anyone who is on their feet day after day they are very good .. they also have antibacterial inner soles .. they use the softest of leathers .. and once you wear a pair you'll not want any other shoes .. well not to be comfortable anyway ... they are the only shoes I have ever worn on the first day and not got a blister or a sore toe or any discomfort at all .. you simply forget you are wearing them

they look very comfy. I am all about comfort. The shoes are rather nice looking for comfortable shoes. You should see the styles that are considered comfortable here.

My shoe size seems to have gone down a half size since I purchased my last pair, so I would have to agree with you that we cannot go by the size we are now wearing. Also, my slippers have gone up by one size. They are a little loose, but rather this than too tight. Interesting the read that the toe should be a thumbs length from the tip of the shoe, I never noticed this. I would never buy shoes from a catalogue, as they always look nicer in the catalogue than they do in reality.

There are so many factors to the good fit of a shoe. The arch, the width, the toe box, the heel.

I have ordered shoe's on line and when they got here, they were not what I thought they would look like. The leather was totally different and they looked really old. I did not send them back because it would cost too much to return and not worth it. They are still around here somewhere. I have not bought anymore shoe's on line.

I ordered a pair of clogs online. The fit okay. But, when I stood to walk in them, they weren't as comfortable as I expected. I worked in a store that modified shoes and bracing for people and the orthotist modified the arch and I still didn't find it comfortable. I am going to try half arches made of gel.

I haven't ever ordered shoes from a catalog or online. I always have to try shoes on also because some fit so much different than other ones.

i could never buy a pair online or from a catalogue as i always need to try them on first. this is because i hate the way some trainers or shoes are shaped, the underlining curve they have which supports the arc of your foot, i just cant stand how some of them feel, and to spend decent money online, or from a catalogue on a pair of shoes that wont be the perfect fit for me, well i just cant understand what would drive me to do it, so i just simply, dont! and this is all from a male perspective, i only have two pairs of shoes and ive had them for monthes and monthes, wearing them day in day out, once they have worn out i start my hunt for a pair i am happy with, in shops where i can feel them!

i bought shoes from a catalogue like 3 times i guess. and i regreted doing it. they weren't as pretty as they were in the pictures. sometimes, they really are uncomfortable. and i rarely use them since they look uglier in real life. so, it's just a waste of time, money and effort, too. it's not worth it. i'd rather go to the mall now and look for shoes i really am comfortable with . plus i can get the size i wanted. no need to wait long to get the shoes i want.

Nor do you have to send the shoes back and wait for credit.

I totally agree with you. I have a hard time finding shoes because I have naturally wide feet so I have to look all the harder than most. My husband shocked me this past Christmas. Since my birthday is Christmas Eve he knew I needed sneakers so he decided to get me a pair. He asked me my size and I told him. When he gave them to me I was really happy that they fit properly and were very comfortable. He held onto the receipt just in case tho. But you are right it is easier to try on the shoes at the store and be shure they fit before you invest the money in them.
The same applies to childrens shoes. You may know your childs shoe size but when shopping for shoes they have to try them on to be shure they have not grown and need a larger size.

DSW all the way baby!!!! LOL
I love shoes! Now, of course I do not get to shop shoes as often as I would like. But I love shoes and taking me to DSW is like taking a kid to a candy store.
Even though I love looking at shoes in catalogs, I would have to agree with you. I have to try them on first. Walk back and forth to be sure that I am able to walk in them without killing myself or my feet. ha ha
That is also some great advice for those that do not shop shoes very often. I find that when I take my kids to buy shoes, it is hard to judge so I do the half a thumb rule too.

We go to DSW when we go to the mall too. I have found some great shoes there, though I have never bought one single pair for myself. I still tend to lean towards cheap shoes. Really cheap. I know this isn't a good practice but unfortunately I am too frugal to spend a lot on a pair of shoes.

No, I won't buy a pair of shoes online or out of a catalog. I suppose if I came across a pair by a brand I already know and wear and the price is really good I may do it. Up to now I never have though. I agree with you that different styles do fit differently. I almost always try on the shoes at the store. Only time I don't is when it's a brand I've already been wearing and KNOW which size fits.

I have tried that too, but failed because I can't find the same shoe online.

I would never buy a pair of shoes from a catalogue or online because i do not have the chance to try them on. My problem is that for being a women i have not only big, but wide feet. it is hard to find a pair of shoes that fit right in the store none the less online.

I've never ordered shoes online or in a catalog. As a child my mom even had to take me to the store to try shoes on because I have just a high instep. And now my daughter is like this too. Once bought her a pair of boots only to have to take them back the next day because of her high instep.
I always have to try a pair of shoes on before buying them because I hate having to take stuff back and the idea of shipping shoes back doesn't seem worth it to me. I love shoes though lol

Yes, you have to be familiar with the type of shoes that you are wearing and buying. It's justlike in some clothes. Some clothes Iwear a smaller size than clothes Iget from other stores. If I bought a pair of Timberland boots in a store and they fit perfect then whn i order Timberlands online at a discounted price then Iknow exactly what to buy at the right size. It'a lll about familiarity with the product!

We dont really buy shoes online or through catalogue. One time, my husband ordered a shoe through catalog and it was very frustrating when we got it because although the lenght of his feet is alright, the width don't. We just usually go to diffent stores now to buy. At least we can fit it right away.

would -- as long as you know your size you're good to go! It's that easy. As an adult your shoe size doesn't fluctuate!

I would probably not order shoes through any means - as you. I need to try them on because my feet are just too picky! LOL
Shoes are among many things I feel that way about. I wouldn't order clothes either as you may be 1-5 size variations depending on style/designer etc...very annoying. Furniture, who wants to order a really nice looking living room set and when you sit on it the first time you feel like you just sat on a wooden bench?
