Eleanor sometimes begs for food. Actually, she just stands on her hind legs and places her front paws on my leg and just stares at me. Anyway, I try not to give her table food. She has a very delicate stomach. However, it would be nice to know if there are any types of table food that is ok for dogs to eat. I remember that my vet said steamed vegetables were good for dogs.

We never feed our dog table scraps. We believe that the excellant dog food (IAMS) that she gets has all the nutrional value that she needs. I watch kids in my home and occasionally one of the kids trys to give her food off their plate - it actually makes her sick. She has thrown up a couple times because of it.

There is a big difference between food off you table and food that you would eat for dogs. Food right off your table isnt good for dogs for a number of reasons. Number one your food on your table has been prepared to your tastes and contains addatives and condiments such as salt and butter which aren't good for dogs. Number two if you feed your dog from the table it makes them feel as though they are a welcome guest to your dinning experience. I don't know about you but I would prefer my dog NOT be at the supper table.
There are lots of foods that you purchase for yourself to eat that are good for dogs. Vegetables, oatmeal, eggs any good source of protien or vitamins is good for a dog. My recommendation would be if you were planning on feeding your dog human food on a regular basis that you get a menu plan from your vet. It is important that they get the right balance of nutrients and calories and a dogs needs are different from our own. I do feed my dog things like oatmeal and eggs for breakfast occasionally but I prepare them especially for her, plain. Sometime bacon and cheese make good cheap treats for dogs as well. Just make sure they are getting the right balance of nutrition.
