What are the steps in writing a song?

Do you start writing songs with writing lyrics or composing music? I'm a poet and would like to write songs but I'm not a musician yet. Although I aspire to learn how to play the piano and the guitar.

I fused writing and music together. I started from writing then later on I put music into my words. Music and writing are my passion, that's why. I learned how to play the guitar when I was 12 yrs. old. I didn't take guitar lessons, I was just taught by my twin with the 4 basic chords, and from then on.. i started practicing everyday. It just takes perseverance and patience to learn. Now, i've written over 50 songs since 2003. I'm sure you'll also get far someday! Pursue it if you really want it!
