Anyone ever had shock treatment therapy?

My father has undergone this 3 times. It helped the first 2 times, the last time though, it seemed to really mess him up. His short/long term memory has basically been destroyed. His molars have been crushed. He shakes alot and sometimes kinda just stares into space. He received these treatments because of his depression. He was aware of these side effects when he had this done. He freely signed the release forms. He said he feels like when the medicine gets used to his system he needs something to get the chemical imbalance back into balance. Is this barbaric to anyone else or is it just me?

Wow, the word fried comes to mind. Maybe the person who did the treatment failed to do it properly. Shock treatment reminds me of how they would use this to treat mental patients. There has to be a different way to treat people with depression than using something so invasive is this.

Yep, fried is correct. Hopefully after all our objections, he won't do it again. I honestly don't think his body could take any set of treatments. Thanks for responding.
