Twins born in different years.

Canada
January 3, 2007 12:03am CST
Here is a warped one::: On New Years Eve, a mother gave birth to the first of twins at 11:59 pm and the second one at 12:01 am.Therefore, technically, the children are born in different years.I am having trouble wrapping my mind around twins born a year apart...

What is the cut off date for sending your kids to school. What if one can attend and the other technically can't That would be a scream

The cut-off date her use to be Dec 31 at midnight. Therefore, going by that rule, the twins would be starting school in different years.

where i live (florida) the cut off date for schools is in the beginning of september. so both of the children would still be in the same grade here, but i'm not sure about other places in the us.

Thank you for the info.I am in BC,Canada and it would be different here.I would hope either way both would be allowed to school in the same year. Of course, logic does not always play a part in rules/regulations.....

That is realy amazing, lonewolfnan. I wonder what the odds are of something like that occuring? I'm sure that it must not be the first time in the history of the world that twins have been born techincally a year apart. But I bet that it is a very rare occurrance. What a neat story. I think that I vaguely heard it being discussed on the news on the TV while I was typing awhile back, but I didn't listen enough to really get the gist of the story. I'm glad that your post brought it back to my attention! ^_^

the time we are concerned with only have a theoraticall stability noy practically we know what exactly the dates are so dont worry and confused with that feel free to think that they are real twins.

I understand what you are saying and I thank you for taking the time to share with us. I look at it as a quirk and not to be taken too seriously.Remember the song "I am my own grandpa"?

While they are both the same age, they were born in different yearsand therefore would be eligible for different programs at different times. While in most cases it would only be one day,in certain circumstances it COULD be one year.

How bizarre! So, would they be in different grades when they go to school? Or is there a different date that's used for this?

I would hope common sense would be used in this unusual circumstance.I know schools here USE to depend only on date of birth, but that was 40 years ago and I hope we look at calenderic and skeletal age/maturity.
