Hey there, I've been collecting things made out of Jade for a while now, swords, pendants, puzzle balls, incense containers and the like. I'm not sure all the time that the things I've gotten are Jade. I know there are 2 types of Jade - Nephrite and Jadeite but I don't know how to tell the difference between them even. There are things that I've received that I know are deffinately not Jade and are made out of resin instead. Just wondering if anyone here has an idea of what to look out for when buying Jade and what the differences are between Jadeite and Nephrite? Here is a pic of some of my items. One White Jade sword, one Green Jade sword, 2 Jade puzzle balls made from different Jades, and a red Jade censer or insence container. Click on the pic to have a better look. I love them.

I believe it is hard to tell the difference between what is jade and what is a well made piece created especially to look like jade. However I am sure that if you could join a Gemstone Club, there will be someone in it who either knows about Jade or can put you in touch with someone who could help you learn more.
I believe there are several gemstone clubs in Brisbane, so perhaps investigate them. Before joining, these Clubs often let you attend a meeting to see if they have anything of interest to offer to you. So, check that as your first thing and also ask about Jade, because if they cannot help you then there is a chance that someone might be able to point you in the direction of someone who can help you.
Good luck morfessa and I hope you can find someone to help you learn more about your favourite gem. :)
