Blu-Ray and HD-DVD

I'm trying to understand what would be the best one of these two technologies. Blu-Ray is more capacius, but i've read several reviews saying that one technology or the other are better for memorizing movies. I find difficult to understend how a storage hardware could influence the quality of a movie (except for the capacity, of course!)
