It is not. If you want your generation to move ahead then it is must, but if you dont care about them at all, it is not.

I have been married now for more that 8 years and I am happy. I will do it again so I think it depends on person to person. Some can live without getting married.

For some it is. Not all people though feel the same way. For me personally it isn't necessary.
