Rice is the most difficult food to make for me. Either its still hard or sticky. Even when I follow the directions it still doesnt come out right. We all know that rice is a very common side for dinner and I really need some tips on how to make i right. My poor husband still eats it whether its hard or sticky ( my toddler will say yuck though lol) but I really want them to fully enjoy their dinner.

First thing you do is throw away the directions. Use calrose medium or long grain rice. Put the rice in a sauce pan. the size of the saucspan should be such that the rice fills about one third of the pan. Wash the rice five times. I repete, five times. That gets rid of most of the talc. When you have done that put water in the pot so it's between one half and three quarters of an inch above the rice. I use the distance between the tip of my finger and the first knuckle. Bring it to a full boil, stiring one time only. As soon as it's boiling, cover the saucepan and turn off the heat. If you're using an electric range top, that means put it on a cold element. Twenty minutes later, perfect rice.

I too had a problem making rice in a saucepan on the stove. I bought a rice cooker/steamer, and I couldn't make rice without it now. It's so very simple, you can use any kind of rice you want (I even tried rice from the dollar store...lol) and it always comes out great! Not sticky, not hard, etc. It's a worthwhile investment, and you can get a decent one for about $20. Hope this helps!! :-)
