Chupacabra - Does it exist?

Do you believe that the chupacabra ('goat-sucker') exists? I was watching a documentary on the discovery channel about it the other night, and was wondering what other people think. On the documentary they basically talked about the sightings of it, the cattle (and other animals) mutilations, the footprints, and the skeleton that was found. The footprints were deemed by an animal print expert to be fake. The skeleton was found by a zoologist to be that of a dog. Furthermore on the 'non-believer' side of the argument, some Town Sherrif decided to do an experiment. He put an animal corpse in an area typical of where these mutilated corpses are generally found, and did a 'stakeout' to see what would happen to it. They watched the corpse and its deterioration over a few days. They found that the exsanguination 'blood-sucked-dry' look was actually achieved on this particular corpse by the action of various parasites, including blowflies. And the surgical-like 'incisions' and removal of specific soft organs was also achieved by parasites and scavengers.
One thing that strikes me, however, is the fact that these effects were achieved over a number of days. What bout cases where this has been seen overnight - could this have been achieved naturally by parasites and scavengers overnight?
What about eyewitness sightings? Mass hysteria or 'real'? Most eye witnesses report seeing a red-eyed beast, and of course many animals have red looking eyes at night. But what about the fact that they generally report seeing something walking upright on two legs?
Any ideas? Have any of you seen it or had any experiences, or have any theories?

Much of folk lore has some bases in reality.Add that to the fact we are finding new species continually, there is a possibility of anything existing.Just because we have not found it does not mean it does not exist.

I've seen lots of fake pictures because they look nothing like the chupacabra I saw, but I have seen a few authentic pictures because I know what they look like in person.

I've seen a few programs on this. I have to say that it is quite strange. There is definitely something going on that we don't know about. I believe most sightings were in Mexico which isn't far from where I live. I haven't heard any recent sightings though. I have no idea what it could be.

I believe the witnesses are seeing something. I think it is a supernatural thing and that these "creatures" are not living animals or bilogical entities. And no, thankfully I have never seen a Chupacabra. They seem to be unique to South America or south american cultures.

I found a Chupacabra in northern California, part of North America! Sightings have been reported from California through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas...

When I was about 10 years old, I was down in San Luis, Mexico and the lady we were staying with told me stories about Chupacabras. She told me she swore she had seen chupacabras attacking a flock of goats. She was either a really good story teller, or she really did see one. She was very serious about it.

Oh wow! How fascinating! How did she describe them? Did you feel she was telling the truth or not?

I think i watched a thing called "Is it real" on national geographic...
It made me kind of believe it was real, but then again, why didnt they set up motion cameras they have now to capture deer in the forest, why dont they use those to set it up around their farms?
but yea i guess it could be true, :)

Yes I also wondered about motion cameras and why they didn't use them?

Chupacabra are REAL! I SAW ONE! It was laying tangled in seaweed on the beach. The eyes are not red. They are solid black as in the characatures of "gray" aliens: those huge almond shaped eyes. No eyelids. No fur. It was horrific! Scared the H*ll out of me! Those teeth are so big that that the mouth is not closed! The feet have HUGE claws! I wasn't alone, a friend and I saw it at the beach of Noyo Harbor, Fort Bragg, California, USA, in 1995.

It was a chupacabra! The body was a beige color, no hair at all. I was SCARED! There were NO SAND FLIES around the body or on the seaweed! My friend, a guy who is 6ft 5in tall wanted to check it out, but I made him leave. We got close enough to see it in detail, and I WOULD NOT let him poke it with a 10 foot pole! And with all the driftwood around, that was possible! THERE WERE NO BUZZARDS around either, very strange if any kind of carrion is around. NO WE DID NOT REPORT IT! I thought it was still alive.

Noyo is a natural harbor along the northcoast of Mendocino County. There's lots of deer, woods, coyote, the occassional mountain lion. Its a rural area and people keep cattle, sheep, chickens. There's even a lama farm around. Lots of natural wild life. Wild turkeys. A chupacabra could slip into the woods and live easily.

Oh my HEAVENS!!!!! How horrific but amazing!!! Did you tell anyone at the time? Those 'greys' look creepy enough, but with the addition of massive teeth and claws...! What colour was the body? What did you do?! I was going to say maybe it was some sea creature washed up, but I really cannot think of any known sea creature that fits that description...

I do agree that some people use this type of thing as an opportunity to make money / fame - is in people 'finding' fake footprints etc. But I don't personally think that the entire Chupacabra phenomenon is a hoax - I think it's either something supernatural, or something 'natural' that appears to be supernatural. Thanks for responding!

Its not undocumented. I've seen real chupacabra and I wasn't alone. I've also seen photos of creatures that are exactly the same as the chupacabra I found on the beach of Noyo Harbor, California, USA in 1995.

Think I watched the same discovery channel program. My opinion is that if we can reproduce the same effects on the corpses, then this should be a natural phenomenon. For the overnight incidents, it could be that the corpse had been in one location for sometime already and was someone transported it a different location later on, which was later discovered.

I agree with some instances maybe. But what about the one where that man's pet dog was found? (I think it was a day after it went missing?)

Theres been a huge amount of coverage of the alleged sightings all over the world! I think this is the nature of TV, internet and international reporting these days. Thanks for replying!
