My oldest daughter is almost 10, I am wondering how many activities are too much for a child? She started dance class when she was 3 (her choice). We were walking by the studion one day and she was looking at the pictures, she wanted to go in, they were having classes for her age. The instructor left her stay free of charge, she has been in it ever since. She began twirling batons at 5, she loved watching the girls in the parades. At 7 she began cheerleading. She doesn't seemed stressed out and cheerleading and dance are different seasons. She does volleyball after school every wednesday and girl scouts on mondays. She now wants to start gymnastics. Do you think this is too many activities for a normal child?

I have two children and find that with practices and the games that it is better to limit to one or two at the most per season. Like my oldest likes to play soccer but want to play baseball. So he plays soccer in the fall and baseball in the spring instead of of both within the same season. If their grades start dropping they are not allowed to play until they are brought back up.

How do you set limits? I have three girls, all of them twirl and 2 are cheerleaders, 2 are in girl scouts. They are all in dance. I am paying over $500 a month just in activities, that doesn't include recital costumes or anything. Thanks

If your child is not stressed out and wants to do it let her. If it becomes too much on her or you, cut back on the activities.
