Is it right that Oprah only is helping the black girls in Africa or should she let the poor white girls in to. I really don't know the situations of the whites over there but I would think there would be some really poor ones.

I've heard Oprah herself explain this, and her reasoning is that she was a poor black girl and she intends to help poor black girls like herself. She was answering a question not about black vs. white but about girls vs. boys. She is helping people on a grand scale in the manner she thinks will bring about the most change for the good in that country. But she is being criticized for not helping everyone, everywhere. No one can take responsibility for all of the world's problems, but people seem to expect her to. I've even heard her criticized for helping Africans and not Americans. She does help Americans, especially through her Angel Network, but that's money she has fundraised. The school in Africa was paid for entirely with her own personal money. The way I feel is that she earned her money and she can use it to help any one she pleases. There is no right or wrong to how she chooses to help. It is her choice.

It is her money and she can do anything she wants with it. When people do something so kind and generous there is always those people who have to find something wrong with it. It is her business and I say great job!

I agree. I had not even given it any thougth until I heard a reporter ask her the question about the white girls. I do think that if someone famous like Madonna started a school for all white girls, that people would be upset about it. Most people cant just focus on the fact that #1 they are spending their own money and can choose to help who they want to. #2 somone is getting helped.

I dont think we have the right to justify whether she is doin right or not. I think she is atleast doing something for the kids out there.
Only a person who has been there once will understand the situation there. we all are living here our comfortables life's. We have so many oppourtunities here, so we should not complain about what she is doing

oprah helps MANY more people than just black people in africa. she would not only donate her time & money to a specfic race. she is focusing on africa righr now, because it's one of the poorest countries, with an extreme amounts of deaths by aids and many other diseases. she wants to educate them specifically so they can prevent that in the future.
